John Eustice was one of the pioneer American cyclists to break into the world of European pro cycling. He founded and captained the first U.S. team to race in the Tour of Italy and is a two-time U.S. professional champion. John worked for ESPN and ABC Sports as a cycling analyst for the Tour de France from 1992 to 2006 and is currently a race organizer and TV analyst.

The NYCC is very pleased to announce that John Eustice will be our featured speaker at our November meeting. He currently creates cycling races and Gran Fondos and has asked that we inform our members of the Putnam Cycling Classic. New York Citi Bike share registration has begun

Submitted by AGarcia on Tue, 04/16/2013 - 2:00pm

...The Citi Bike program is fast approaching and people are signing up fast.

Annual registration is $95. You can ride for a whole year, free 45 minute ride, charges for going over. First 5,000 registered get 'charter' membership and get bonuses. It's going quick. For those who are residents in a NYC Housing Authority apartment, you can get in for $60 a year, but that discount is not available yet, so you can register later.

Good luck and happy Citi Bike commute cycling,

Cold Spring Harbor to CP - Route suggestions for all or part requested

Submitted by Jeanne on Tue, 04/16/2013 - 12:55pm

Seeking route suggestions from Cold Spring Harbor to CP.  Great Freedom Adventures, a MA based bike tour company, is providing help to a group wanting to bike from Boston to NY's CP to raise money for Free the Children, a worldwide advocacy group for reducing child labor and poverty. Looking for input from NYCC members on this portion of the ride with emphasis on safety and directness. Have a decent amount of input from various resources including a past stint living and biking in NYC, but would love tips from the folks who currently bike the roads a lot and are therefore the experts. Thanks very much!

Men's Seats

Submitted by PRacine on Mon, 04/15/2013 - 1:27pm

The older I get (65 and counting), the less comfortable is my bike seat, and for shorter distances. After 35-40 miles of B/C riding my crotch aches. Can anyone recommend a man's saddle for a light (130 lbs or so, not much butt down there) rider? Any endorsements for Brooks or other leather saddles? Thanks for your wisdom.
