Berkshire Ride Information and Cue Sheets

Submitted by RFranco on Wed, 05/22/2013 - 2:19pm

I emailed the Berkshire ride information last night, but it seems that some people on the list did not get it.  So  here is a link to the files:  http://sdrv.ms/13IQArj  Besides that, here is the note that I wrote:

Recycling Bicycling Tires

Submitted by DChu on Wed, 05/22/2013 - 2:15pm

Recently R. Chiu had posted in the NYCC Facebook group inquiring whether there is local recycling of bike tires.  [C. Hartmann, can you let R. know about this post?  Thx]    I had sent a note to the NYC Dept. of Sanitation via their Web site to ask about tire reycling, especially in light of the CitiBike sharing program.

Here's the response from DOS:

Derek,

Your message submitted to the Commissioner of Sanitation was routed to the DSNY Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling for response.

Extensive work is completed.  A temporary connector may be provided to access Rockland Lake.  Cyclists once again may be able to ride from North Broadway (Runcible) to Rockland Lake without going on 9W

Your contribution helped a student challenge herself (via cycling)

Submitted by MBruckner on Tue, 05/21/2013 - 4:52pm

At this year's holiday party, the NYCC contributed $15,000 to I Challenge Myself (http://ichallengemyself.org/). I Challenge  Myself’s mission is to use endurance athletics (primarily cycling) to encourage and support public high school students to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, to develop healthy lifestyles and prepare for college and the workforce.

Need a pit stop

Submitted by JFinder on Tue, 05/21/2013 - 4:10pm

For a Memorial Day ride, I'm looking for a good pit near Hillside Ave & County Road, which I think is in Cresskill.  If you can suggest a place, I'll call them and confirm that they're going to be open Monday, Memorial Day.

The Tenafly Bike Workshop will be closed for the holiday.

Of course there's the very fine Dunkin Donuts a mile and a half north in Demarest, which will be open, but I'd prefer something a little farther south near Hillside.

Thanks in advance.

New Routes in the Catskills

Submitted by rfj1862 on Tue, 05/21/2013 - 1:27pm

Hi all,

I've put up a bunch of new routes in the Catskills, including some that are easily accessible from the Poughkeepsie train station (check out the one over the Shawngunk Ridge, for example).

Have to say that I was missing NYC over the winter!
