co-leader wanted for Jersey Shore ride

Submitted by DHudes on Thu, 05/30/2013 - 8:56pm

I'm planning a ride to the Jersey Shore this June 23rd. Current plan is to go over the GWB and use the East Coast Greenway route , stop in New Brunswick for kosher pizza around mile 50 and keep going through the pine barrens to Point Pleasant where we take a break, maybe some ice cream and do some boardwalk stuff  at the Jenkins Family amusement center on the boardwalk before heading back up along the shore to dinner at a kosher restaraunt in Deal (there are several choices all quite near each other) then continuing on to Long Branch and NJ Transit back to NYC. I'd like to do this as a fast B ride or slow A ride.

E-mail me if interested in co-leading.

Monday Night Picnic in the Park - Farewell to Adrienne and Bill

Monday, June 10, 2013 06:00 PM

Here's another chance to bid adieu to our wonderful friends, Bill Laffey and Adrienne Browing (just in case you can't make it to their Farewell ride this weekend...or even if you can!).

Adrienne and Bill have been ride leaders, Sig leaders, Board members, and organizers of Escape from New York to name a few of their many great contributions to our club. Sadly, they will be moving soon to Telluride, Colorado to begin a new life and enjoy their retirement.

Late ride listing - Sunday June 16 lunch in Scarsdale

Submitted by JFinder on Thu, 05/30/2013 - 12:22pm

I've posted a recovery ride to Scarsdale for lunch on Sunday.  Meet at 10:30 at Woodlawn at the end of the #4 line.  B15 tops.  Lunch at Lange's, and return by a different route, including Bike Sunday on the Bronx River Parkway.

The ride will appear on the Ride Listings as soon as it's approved.

Saturday winds from the southwest and a ride up the Old Put.

Assuming the unlikely happens and the forecast for SW winds is correct I plan to ride Saturday from the Lower East Side up the Old Put to Brewster leaving stupid early, like 6:00am. Hoping to beat the heat, I should be at the Van Cortland Park subway station (Westside IRT) by 7:00 and Brewster by 11:00. Normally I try to catch the 11:16 train back from Brewster to Grand Central (you will need Metro North Bicycle Permit).

GWB Scare

Submitted by ERayvid on Wed, 05/29/2013 - 8:02am

Beware D-Bags on the GWB.

I was riding back into the city on Saturday around 1PM when a huge guy (~6' 4" - it's all relative when you're a little Jewish man) was walking in the opposite direction mimicked charging me and throwing his arms out as if he was going to push me in the river. I was scared out of my mind!

I would have turned around and confronted him but you never know what will happen when you're dealing with a crazy person (and PS, re-read the parenthetical).

Memorial Day Weekend in the Berkshires -- Thanks to everyone!

Well, except for the weather gods, I'm still pissed at them...

But I wanted to expressly thank

 - Hank Schiffman, for helping with the Metro-North trains

 - our entire wonderful Board of Directors, for understanding the value of tradition while embracing the need to shake it up now & then

 - our Ride Coordinators Kate, John, & Skip, for wrangling such an awesome collection of Ride Leaders so quickly
