Submitted by BNichols on Tue, 03/04/2014 - 2:52pm

Hi Folks,

3/8-18 (this saturday) I am going with a ski club to St. Moritz. with 2 days in Como Italy.

There is a guy signed up that just broke his leg and cant go, he doesnt have trip insurance.

If someone could go they could probably get his spot for a song.

The full deal is $2300 which includes airfare, hotel, breakfast & dinner in St. Moritz, and ground transport.

Not included are lift tickets which are cheap, lunches, booze, & Dinners in Como.

Email me if you are interested  [email protected] and I will send the trip flyer. Obviously you have to move quickly and need a valid passport.

(yes, I will miss 1 sig saturday)

Traveling to Tuscany, Italy - need advice - routes and bikes

Submitted by MLevin on Tue, 03/04/2014 - 7:58am

All,

As I know many of your travelers, I was wondering if I could get some advice on an upcoming trip to Tuscany, Italy.  To be exact, we are staying 6 nights in Montalcino and then three nights in Florence.

First, does anyone have recommendations about bike rentals.  I am looking to rent a high end or at least decent road bike for a good portion of the trip to do morning rides while the rest of the family and friends are relaxing in the rental home.  Does anyone recommend shipping or bringing my own bike?  I would prefer not to, but thought I would check.  We are flying air France.

Second, does anyone have recommendations for 30-40 mile routes or resources to find routes in the Tuscany region.

Did anyone ride on River road over the weekend? My undersatnding is its not

rideable after the first major climb. Also, has the alpine section been plowed?

Thanks in advance!

Life of a boot

Submitted by GYang on Sun, 03/02/2014 - 11:49pm

This is what a dollar bill looked like after being used as a boot in one of my tires for about three weeks - it went in looking fairly new. I have had others that come out fine. Not sure what was different this time other than this was probably a bigger cut in the tire than others I have had.

The Mean Streets of New York - yesterday's op-ed in the Times

Something all of us who have cycled down the Grand Concourse and Queens Blvd knew instinctively but perhaps didn't know what specifically in them makes motorists disrespectful of cyclists and pedestrians.

C SIG Classification - time change

Submitted by KMostkoff on Fri, 02/28/2014 - 10:04pm

We are delaying the start of the classification to 12 noon due to the expected cold in hopes that it will get much warmer by then.  Please check your email for previously sent directions.

Dress warmly: layers and layers. Wear pants/tights, full-fingered gloves, a hat under your helmet, something around your neck and warm socks.  Remember to bring a snack and water. Expect to be outside for 1 1/2-2 hours.

This has been a rediculous winter, so why should we expect it to cooperate with us cyclists? We promise it will be fun anyway and now our next ride will surely be warmer!

All the leaders will be out there with you and we look forward to meeting you tomorrow.
