Elections: Oops! I misspoke.

Submitted by PStorey on Wed, 10/12/2016 - 11:49am

At last night's Club meeting I stated, erroneously, that this year's ballot would be available in the next day or two.

In fact, consistent with prior years' practice, the ballot will become available and voting will begin on or about October 25th, which will give everyone about two weeks to get their votes in.

Apologies for the error.

***BEWARE*** Large Oil Patch on 2nd Avenue Approaching 57th St.

Submitted by LondonDisplaced on Wed, 10/12/2016 - 9:50am

Hi Everyone,

BEWARE, there's a large patch of oil in the right hand lane of 2nd Avenue as you approach the lights coming up to 57th St.  I think it's 57th St- I went down hard this morning and was rather dazed and confused.  As I was getting up, another guy went down on the same patch, it must have downed tens of people this morning, you could hardly stand up it was so trecherous.  The slick covers the whole of the right hand lane for about 10-15 yards as you approach the lights.

I called 911 and reported it as it's a hazard to life as you approach a cross street.

Rides to NJ/Rockland (over the GWB).. departing Central Park

Submitted by jcraig280 on Tue, 10/11/2016 - 6:54pm

I've noticed a few rides that leave from Manhattan, maybe moreso recently than in the past(?), that leave from Central Park that are destined West and North (ie. over the GWB).  I guess my question is why this is chosen as a departure location, when they seem to have to go thru more traffic and intersections, eventually going by eg. Grant's/Sakura anyway, since they have to head west and north by default?

Seeking Pedicab Parking on UES

Submitted by CWood on Mon, 10/10/2016 - 11:39am

Citi Bike is expanding its esteemed Non-Motorized Division to uptown.

We are looking for parking for a 9-foot-long pedicab, around East 81st St. & York Ave. Can be at a bike-friendly garage or other such place, indoors. Need an affordable rate. I believe we don't require 24-hour access, but do need to get in early morning and late evening.

If you have any tips, please contact Peter Meitzler (not me) at [email protected].

Thanks!

Carbon Frame Repair Recommendation

Submitted by FLeffel on Sun, 10/09/2016 - 5:27pm

My bike has emergerd from successful carbon surgery at the hands of (the appropriately named) Paul Carbonara of Brooklyn Carbon Repair.  http://brooklyncarbon.com/. Paul came highly recommended and lived up to his billing. The bike is back in action and seems to be as good as new. As an added bonus, Paul was meticulous in matching up the finish and the decals -- you'd have to look very carefully to see where the repair was done. His price was reasonable, the job was done on time and quickly, and he's located two blocks from a subway stop.

If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate position of having a cracked carbon frame, consider Paul.

Le Tour (de Bronx)

Submitted by michael on Sun, 10/09/2016 - 2:07pm

Is anyone doing the Tour de Bronx? This year it's on Sunday October 23rd.

It's a picturesque, supported 40 miler, and it's free. You might also be able to get a free T shirt and pizza at the end (although I wouldn’t count on it). In previous years you could register at the start line but it's a hassle. It's easier to pre-register online.

If some of you want, we can do it as a group. Let's figure out what speed if and when we get a few people interested. It's only 40 miles so a faster or slower pace is OK with me.

Email me and we'll figure this thing out.

Today's ride is...tomorrow.

Here's the note I just sent those signed up for today's, Sunday's ClimBathon/Alt. ClimBathon:

I'm oblivious about everything that goes on outside my apartment except politics. To my somewhat embarrassment, one of those signed up for today's ride--with the odd last name for an enthusiastic cyclist, Walker--brings to my attention this is the weekend we ignore the fact Indians lived here before the Spanish discovered them under the venal guidance of an Italian. Well, no, Eric didn't put it in quite those terms.

CANCELLED - Watchung Reservation and Great Swamp

Submitted by MGrinthal on Fri, 10/07/2016 - 8:40pm

This ride is unfortunately cancelled this weekend due to high likelihood of rain in NJ tomorrow.  The ride has been relisted for Saturday 10/15.

Sorry for the disappointment.  But we'll enjoy those twisty descents much more when they (and we) are dry.
