new member / trail access recommendations (croton aqueduct)

Submitted by t_mortonhumphreys on Mon, 10/17/2016 - 11:51am

Hi guys - just paid my NYCC membership a couple of weeks ago, looking forward to riding with you!

Trail question - if coming from the city (UES), what is the easiest/quickest/safest way to get to Yonkers/the Croton trail? I want to take my wife along....

Thanks,

Tim

question: how to repair a hole in chromoly steel frame?

Submitted by chfong on Sun, 10/16/2016 - 10:01pm

Hi,

I have a Kona Honky Inc road 2010 road steel Chromoly bike. It had some fenders mounts that was welded on to the rear seatstays. Unfortunately the bike fell sideways with some panniers loads and the (right side) fender mount that was welded became detached and literally tear off a wall on the seat stay tubing. I guess the weld joint is stronger than the tubing itself..

Do you know anyone in NYC area or Upstate NY ( near Poughkeepsie NY ) that does Chromoly steel tubing repair? How much would it be? What are my options?

It's a Kona Honky Inc 2010 road bike with drop-bar, disc brakes and 700c-28 wheels.

Thanks ,

CHF

Bike Fit

Submitted by ty111 on Sun, 10/16/2016 - 7:59pm

Does anyone have a fitter who's good with arthritic old ladies?  I got fit at Signature for one bike, back when Signature was in NYC. My second bike was built with those specs, but it doesn't feel quite right.  City recommendations would be preferable because I am loathe to go up to Greenwich unless it's absolutely the best option.

The ride fee itself is a bargain. Ravi intends to generate enough interest and publicity to do substantial fundraising online.

Recently acquired a used Xtracycle and with two little people in tow I am now on the hunt for a Hooptie attachment.  If anyone has an old hooptie they are no longer using and want to sell/pass it along to a new family please reach out.

Ongoing RSD repaving note -- 96th Street overpass bridge

Submitted by MHiller on Fri, 10/14/2016 - 2:56pm

Just as a side-note, the RSD paving project that goes south from 97th Street has mostly laid down fresh asphalt, but as of yesterday the overpass bridge that goes from 95th Street to 97th Street is still largely milled and not repaved. There are patches of fresh asphalt, but it's not done. At least this is true as of yesterday; I'll check on it again on my commute home tonight.

If you are heading uptown for a club ride*, consider alternatives to RSD in the 90s. Amsterdam has a protected lane from 72nd to 107th, which is a good option. Or use the greenway and then head to upper Riverside Park at the 100th Street loop to access the drive above the roadwork instead.

I hope I'm not stealing Randy's thunder, but in case this is of interest and you're not on his "Person Place Thing" list:
