GW Bridge Alert
On the New Jersey side of the GWB bike path, the sidewalk now has jersey barriers running down the middle, making the usable path very narrow - probably too narrow for cyclists going opposite directions to pass each other safely. There's room on the outside of the barriers for westbound cyclists to proceed safely (slowly), but only a narrow opening to get back through to the gate and out onto Hudson Terrace. Don't know if they will still be there over the weekend, but exercise caution.

Saturday's temps will drop into the very low 20's with winds at 23mph these temps are very dangerous for riding a bike.

Forbidding Forecast For Lyme Disease In The Northeast - NPR
"We're anticipating 2017 to be a particularly risky year for Lyme," Ostfeld says.
Keesing and Ostfeld, who have studied Lyme for more than 20 years, have come up with an early warning system for the disease. They can predict how many cases there will be a year in advance by looking at one key measurement: Count the mice the year before.
The number of critters scampering around the forest in the summer correlates to the Lyme cases the following summer, they've reported.
A smutty story for a very cold day: How a pro rider warmed his hands in a race.
The year: 1957
The race: Liège-Bastogne-Liège
The racer: Gérard Saint
What he did: Stopped in the snow to piss on his hands to bring them back to life.*

*That's a quotation from the book. I would have used a slightly more euphemistic verb, reluctant as I am to be thought as being foul-mouthed.
Attn: B-STS riders
Norbert Phillipps has announced that the medium-speed rides in this series will be led at a B18 pace rather than a B17 pace as originally announced. The ride listings have been revised accordingly. Please consider whether this revision is important to you and if so, please consider withdrawing, or switching to the corresponding B16 rides.
