I hate my saddle

Submitted by ninagski on Tue, 02/28/2017 - 6:39pm

Does anyone know of a shop that offers saddle demos?  I purchased what I thought was going to work for me based on a 10 min trainer ride, but after spending all last season trying to "get used to it," I'm finally throwing in the towel.  I need a new saddle.

Thanks in advance!

International Bicycle Shipping

Submitted by vinlaw on Tue, 02/28/2017 - 5:18pm

I know this subject has already received pretty extensive treatment on the MB but I just received two quotes for round tripping a bike from NYC to Ireland, from LuggageFree and BikeFlights. Each one came in around the $1K mark without tax. Seems a bit much. Has anybody shipped bikes internationally for cheaper?

Thanks.

Quantifying the health benefits of a widened GWB

Submitted by NWeissman on Tue, 02/28/2017 - 9:49am

At the February meeting of the Port Authority, Dustin Fry presented the findings of doctors from the Columbia School of Public Health. Their study showed that the increased physical activity spawned by wider GWB paths to be an incredibly cost effective public health intervention at $833 per quality adjusted life year (“QALY”). By comparison, flu shots for kids cost $12,000 per QALY and installing drivers’ side airbags are $30,000. - QALY, Complete George

Meet the new CP Precinct Commanding Officer - Capt Peter Andea...March 1.

Submitted by GYang on Mon, 02/27/2017 - 11:27am

The new Commanding Officer of the Central Park Precinct will be at the Central Park Community Council meeting this Wednesday March 1 starting at 7pm.

Join Christy, me and other NYCC members at this chance to meet Captain Andea.

The meeting is at the Central Park Precinct building about midway on the 86th street transverse. You need to enter from the transverse at the traffic light at the midpoint of the transverse. Please be wary of traffic and potholes along that busy street if you ride there - there was at least one serious accident on the transverse recently.

If you have not been to the CP Precinct before, seeing the restoration of the original buildings is worth a visit by itself.

anyone ever bike west of route 17? is that officially still harriman. I read that hunting is legal west of route 17. was thinking of combining a harriman ride with a sterling forest ride and perhaps harriman west of 17 if that is harriman and there are suitable roads. any good routes?
