Wheel Truing
Need a good recommendation for a shop to have a wheel trued. Prefer Manhattan. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!
ENY Commercialization
I am appalled at the commercialization of Escape New York. The constant emailing, Instagram posting, Facebook posting exhorting people to buy a jersey before the price goes up, or to sign up for the event before the price goes up, brings to mind Crazy Eddie, Johns Bargain Stores, Ed McMahon on the boardwalks of the Jersey Shore, and of course of late Ron Popeil’s huckstering.
GWB Walkway Hours
The PA web site states that the GWB Walkway opens at 6am.
Is that correct?
How bad is the line waiting to get up the ramp on the NY side at 6am?
Thanks
To the NYCC Board - Information request and some questions
Thanks for doing the great volunteer job y’all have been doing this year, along with adjusting and adapting to Board changes in 2018. We appreciate your hard work and the hours you all put in. Give yourselves a raise!
We’ve been catching up on the well-documented Board meeting minutes and had some questions, hopefully not to create extra work. Eden, hope you are felling better and recovering well.
NYCC Race team smoked Fort Lee today
Three of us rode to Ft. Lee to watch our NYCC race team race the Ft. Lee crit. They are awesome. Our guys did well in the Cat 4 and Cat 3 groups and our women were simply awesome in the women's Cat 4. There were a bunch of other NYCC'ers there besides us. It was a perfect day for a bike race and great fun to support our fellow members.
Congratulations Race Team
Who in NYC offers the widest selection of cycling clothes?
It recently occured to me that I've been chewing up my non-cycling shorts by going on long rides, and that needs to stop (the chewing up part, not the ride part). So assuming that cycling shorts are more durable, where in NYC can one find a solid inventory at reasonable prices? A few years ago I'd have thought of Paragon Sports, but on my last stop over there, the sheer quantity of cycling related goods on sale seemed much reduced from what it was a few years ago.
Today 7/29: Large group of riders (100+) on greenway, GWB and Palisades - for a good cause!
Folks,
Just an FYI - there are a large group of riders taking part in a ride from New York to Niagara Falls (Empire State Ride - Ride to End Cancer), starting this morning. I’m part of the group and we take the 8:30 Staten Island ferry on-masse, then head up the greenway to the GWB, up through the Palisades and then 9W to Stony Point for the first day.
Obviously with such a large group of riders, many from out of state and learning to ride together, this will be a bit of a challenge for the already congested routes.
If you see us, please be patient and also give us a wave!!
Many thanks
John
As I've written here, every day's ride has a story. Here's today's.
The last hill in the ClimBathon is Eisenhower (16% for a moment at its first pitch; 17% for a moment at its second pitch). As we reach the top, I tell the group, "We are embarking on an area of homes [Rio Vista] each of which is a shrine to excess and an altar to bad taste." They are breathtakingly expensive and even uglier and tackier than they are expensive. We often stop at the one most recently finished that is a study in the grotesque and the riders line up in front of it where we have a group photo taken. Today a woman, clearly with an ownership stake in the place, was gardening out front. As I picked up my phone to take a picture of the group (she would not have been in the picture), she stated it (i.e. I) was rude to take a picture--seeingly of the house.
