Another Great Event!!
Kudos and personal thanks to all who made Saturday’s Newcomers’ / New Members’ Ride such a success! I’m guessing we had a record number of new, newish, and about-to-be members, and, of course, we all always welcome the chance to catch up with old friends, especially across the A/B/C lines that often seem to divide us. I dare say a good time was had by all.
9W cleanup--Thank you for helping!
June 15 is our day to clean up a one-mile stretch of 9W, starting at The Market and north to Sparkill. We need 20-25 folks to pick up a trash bag or two at The Market, a map showing a 1/10th mile segment assigned to two people and willingness to work for about 30 minutes and then relax over lunch and a beer or whatever.
Everyone who participates gets a ticket worth $10 discount on your lunch.
I posted the cleanup as a ride just so it's listed on the ride listing page. You can show up alone or, organize a ride that gets to the Market about noon, do the cleanup, enjoy lunch and then ride home.

”Roughing it” in southern China
Those who had ridden with my a few times know I was born and raised in China. But when I used to live in China, though I biked everywhere like all Chinese. It was out of necessity, I never bike for recreation within China.
Last fall, I got to do a couple days of proper cycle touring in China with a childhood friend who still lives in China and is part of a cycling group ( the group has a fancy name called “dream team”, as in Living the Dream)
I'll let the picture tell the story.
Did You See Me Get Hit in Central Park?
Did You See Me Get Hit by Dog?
Where: West Drive (CP Loop), Central Park, NYC
When: Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 7:40 AM
Hello All:
An off-leash black and white dog ran into the road and into my bike on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at approximately 7:40 AM.
I was at West 97th Street on the Central Park Road. I had on a fluorescent pink jacket, white helmet and red bike.
Did anyone see this happen? If you did, can you please contact me?
Please text or call: 917 - 499 - 7888.
Thanks so much.

ridewithgps change?
Perhaps a case of "snooze you lose"?
It used to be one can add entries into the cue sheet (and have roboviva convert it into pdf). But it seems now it's only for "premium" member for a fee?
(I can use a pdf editor to add it. But that's an extra step...)
Any other options?
Atlantic Beach Bridge
I had an interesting experience the other weekend scouting a route from the ride library to Long Beach/Point Lookout.
Upon reaching the Atlantic Beach Bridge, a toll bridge connecting the Rockaways with Atlantic Beach, we were confronted with a big sign indicating that cycling on the sidewalk across the bridge was forbidden and a big fine would result. As the police were sitting right there, we dutifully walked over the bridge.
But, while we were walking we saw many cyclists riding the bridge on the roadway!
Newcomers' Ride on Saturday
Trek Travel...any opinions?
The office manager where I work told me last week that upper mgmt decided I've earned an extra week to my summer vacation (I know, I should get that in writing). Like most people, I spend a fair amount of time when I'm not on vacation contemplating what I will do when I next go on vacation, so another week added to the end of August is, well, pretty soon, at the height of tourist season.
Yesterday, I wondered into the new Trek bike store on 8th Avenue and 20th and noticed the Trek Travel section of the store. I contemplated doing something with them about 10 years ago but never did. I regard it as a good sign that they are still doing this; most things that are poorly managed just don't last that long.
Great free PR for NYCC
NYCC mentioned today in the MUG (Manhattan User Group) Newsletter, https://manhattanusersguide.com/
This may bring an influx in inquiries, and possibly an increase in new riders on the newcomers' ride.
