I'm having a hard time finding B16-B18 rides in Cetnral Park. Anyone intersted in forming weekly group rides?

Bike Hanging

Is it okay to hang a bike with a hydroalic disc? I'm referring to the clips or hooks you use to hang a bike by its wheel.

Thumb tacks & flats on Bradley/Tweed - be careful

Submitted by Jimmysal17 on Sat, 10/17/2020 - 6:27pm

NYCC winter dev ride this morning, myself and another rider ended up with silver thumb tacks in our tires.  Last week a friend ended up with multiple silver thumb tacks in both his tires, also going up Bradley/Tweed.  Seems like its being done on purpose, just a heads up to anyone riding through there.

Ass-Saver?

Submitted by EODonnell on Sat, 10/17/2020 - 6:12pm

Yes, I know, maybe not the most appropriate name for a fender, but that's what the product is called.  https://ass-savers.com/

It's a small clip-on fender.  This one is from England, and I would generally not buy something (esp. something so small/ inexpensive) shipped from overseas?  Are these small fenders any good?  Is there an American model that anyone could recommend?

Right or left?

Submitted by sermarkaryan@ya... on Thu, 10/15/2020 - 9:41am

so I'm heading west on my bike, stopped at traffic light on E85th and Park Ave or maybe it was Madison. I'm on the right side (since I was planning to go thru the Central Park traverse to westside, otherwise I usually ride on the left side of one way streets). A helmeted citibike rider is also stopped at the light but on the left side. A driver, rolls down the window and tells the citibike rider that he should be on the right side, it's the law. He said bike lanes are usually painted on the left side and that's why I'm on the left side.

How easily doth my heart melt: A nice PPC police story.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Mon, 10/12/2020 - 5:18pm

Faithful readers know I go off on cops when warranted. If I do that--and I  do--then I am obliged to speak well of them when warranted and I'm happy to do so, I really am.

This is so slight as to make you wonder why I'm using bandwidth to even report it. Saturday we were in the Alpine PPC HQ parking lot. Here's a car backing up to where we were standing. It wasn't clear to us he wanted to come still farther in reverse but he did. He stuck his head out of the window and said, "Excuse me, sir." *That's it. That's all. But how very, very nice. All the moreso because it turns out he was an officer.

Mine Road

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Fri, 10/09/2020 - 11:33pm

I was up at Mine Road today - near West Point, in Highland Falls.  The road's been sporadically closed for militarty training.  Thought I'd share the road is open.  Beware the climb got a little longer since last time - and steeper.  Must have been the earthquake.  Anyways, it seems to be open.

BoatHouse Restaurant

Submitted by GKaplan on Thu, 10/08/2020 - 6:47pm

Just learned via Facebook that the Boathouse Restaurant in Central Park has closed. Remember  coffe and before rides, and smotthies on the hill after rides?

Our youth is fast fleeting. . . . .
