Hogwich ride #10 Sunday Jan.2 RIDE IS ON

Submitted by hogwich on Sat, 01/01/2011 - 3:45pm

9:00 am Jersey side of the GWB

I'll post another message in the morning to confirm ride status.

I'm actually up in Westchester now, and snow away from the main roads is packed in pretty well and not melting all that readily even given today's 50 degree temperatures. It's unlikely that the trailway will be significantly clear by Monday, so this ride is off. (I've submitted a request to cancel it via the rides system as well.)

As an unlisted ride, anybody want to go ride in Brooklyn on Monday instead? The rough ride plan is a half loop in Prospect Park, down to Coney Island via quiet city streets, a brief stop for pocket food around the aquarium, back north, bonus loops in Prospect Park as time allows, and a late lunch at Mile End in Boerum Hill. http://www.mileendbrooklyn.com/info.html

Road Conditions In Prospect Park

Submitted by MTownsend on Sat, 01/01/2011 - 8:44am

Does anyone know what the road conditions are in Prospect Park?

With a high of 45 degrees today it would be a shame not to get out for a ride if it's clear and dry in PP.

Cheers.

Is there a mileage log for 2011 available on the site for download? Couldn't find it. Thanks.

Announcing the (I think) 21st annual Wheelbuilding Class

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sat, 01/01/2011 - 2:01am

What: Come with a rim, hub, and spokes; go home with a perfectly built wheel that you, yourself, will have built.
When: A Sat. or Sun. in late Jan. to mid-Feb., exact date to be determined by class. 10AM-3PM
Where: Church basement, 62nd St. between Third and Second Ave.
Who: While this is not an official NYCC function, this is only for NYCC members.
Class size: Small so everyone gets a chance on the truing stand. (If you can bring one, so much the better.)
Cost: 0...but a modest, small, token contribution to the church, while not necessary, would be appreciated.
Respond: Offline to [email protected]

West Side Greenway

Decided to try this today for my last ride of the year. Figured I'd make it at least up to the GWB, but it was only cleared as far as the new esplanade and was very dicey on my road bike after that. Got as far as the tennis courts before the start of the Cherry Walk section.

Condition of GWB and 9W

Submitted by ICho on Fri, 12/31/2010 - 12:51am

Does anybody know if they are rideable? Can we get updates from people who are "in the know" about the conditions?

I'm hoping that the warmer weather this weekend melts a lot of the snow away....

Thanks!
