The Schumers (our Senior Democratic US Senator and his wife, our former DoT commish) Are spearheading a lawsuit to tear up the Prospect Park bike lane--to preserve free street parking on their block???!!!

Well, let's spearhead an email campaign that tells Chuck if he betrays his party's green platform, betrays the city's chance at a safer, more democratic, and greener form of transportation, betrays the cyclists who vote for him, JUST TO PRESERVE FREE STREET PARKING ON HIS POSH BLOCK IN BROOKLYN, then we will work against his reelection, his protege Anthony Wiener's run for Mayor, and anything else they touch.

Excerpt:
Ms. Sadik-Khan also gave a spirited, sardonic defense of the Prospect Park West bicycle lane, installed last summer in a wealthy neighborhood in Brooklyn and now the subject of an unusual court challenge brought by residents who say the Transportation Department ignored community concerns and misrepresented data on traffic safety.

“You may have heard about it,” Ms. Sadik-Khan said of the lane. “It has done extraordinarily, I guess, controversial things, like dramatically reduced speeding.”

What's at stake in attacks on Sadik-Khan by Matt Seaton

Excellent piece by CRCA member Matt Seaton in The Guardian (London)

Hopefully next Monday's meeting with Capt. Wishnia won't turn into an attack on DOT.
Capt. Wishnia can implement policies that can accomplish everything that flashing lights can
accomplish without the expense of overhauling the park traffic light system.

Henry Hudson Bridge--cycling status

Submitted by JFinder on Wed, 03/09/2011 - 6:37pm

Is this 2010 post still valid?

http://www.streetsblog.org/2010/08/05/henry-hudson-bridge-walkway-re-ope...

In other words, is the HH Bridge still effectively inaccessible at the Inwood Hill Park end (due to rough cycling conditions and stairs), and is riding still prohibited by signs on the bridge walkway?

Thanks.
