unfortunate cyclist behavior in Prospect Park

Submitted by AHendin on Mon, 06/06/2011 - 12:14am

I have to vent. I'm crossing the east park drive at Lincoln Road this afternoon with two small children, one of my own and another. We've got a walk signal. Three cyclists are approaching, two on the near side and one on the far side, nobody too fast, no one too close. There's a barricade across part of the drive so that cyclists have to go on either side of it. We're halfway across, with the one on the far side on his way through, perhaps 15 feet to our right. We're totally obvious, and we have the right of way. I figure he'll have plenty of time to get past. Suddenly my son darts forward a step or two--young children will occasionally do that, which is why we all try to hold hands, but it was a little complicated this time.

Westchester Riding - general question

Submitted by Minda on Sun, 06/05/2011 - 11:13pm

Does anyone ride up in Bedford regularly? If so, wondering if anyone here is familiar with the Contitie/Hook road intersection in Bedford, and how bad Contitie road was this month (potholes, etc.) Looks like it was recently repaved.

Selling 3 Discounted Ride Registrations

Submitted by jcaccavo1986 on Sun, 06/05/2011 - 9:49pm

Due to new weekend commitments this summer, I can no longer participate in three of the bunch of great rides I'd signed up for this summer. I bought the registration the minute they became available, so I got the greatest discount. Purchasing them from me now would put the buyer in a great position because they would not need to pay heightened registration fees for the rides that are now imminent on the calendar - such as the Ride to Montauk on June 18. Details for the rides are below:

1. Ride to Montauk 2011 - June 18th

$61 Bill Graham 100 DISCOUNT registration

$40 bike pick-up in Manhattan on Sunday June 19th (so you don't have to lug your bike back on Saturday)

Deer on GWB Path

Submitted by SYoung on Sun, 06/05/2011 - 10:13am

This morning (7:45) there was an injured deer on the GWB Path. Right after the last set of gates before you get to the end of the bridge - "cliffs" on your left.  It appears the deer fell off the cliff (it didn't look like it was hit by a car from the other side)-according to security/police this has happened before. Luckily there weren't too many cyclists/joggers on bridge and poilice came quickly and put deer in van (unfortunatley it  had died)

On another note - expect crowds on GWB and River Road - Tour De Cure Bike Ride is taking these  routes-

Hello,

My name is Jeniffer. I was just wondering if we are required to sign up somewhere in order to join the ride for the newcomers on Sunday, June 12th, or do we just show up.  Any information would be appreciated. I look forward to riding!

Thank you,

Jeniffer

Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR Impossible to Mount

Submitted by dvisoky on Sat, 06/04/2011 - 7:46am

Part II  - Well I received my 2010 Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR Wheels and my mechanic and I had a horrible time mounting the clincher tires.  We had to use tire irons and both had to work to mount them.  If I ever had a flat I would have to actually cut the tires off the bike.  The Rims appear to be too big for a standard 700cc tire.  I heard that Zipp Wheels might have the same problem

I went online and someone mentioned to use Zipp Red Rim tape (rather than standard Mavic Tape which might be too thick) which is very thin and to use a Mavic Tire Iron when mounting - flat head.  I also heard to about using Wire Bead Tires
