"The Ultimate Parking Machine"

Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Fri, 04/11/2014 - 9:54am

Following the scathing satire posted by an NYCC member (shameless plug!) on this very message board, this appeared on Yahoo today... http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/firefighters-smash-bmws-windows-stretch-hose-toward-8-164057449--abc-news-topstories.html?vp=1

... and yes, I am almost certain that some knucklehead parked his Chevy Cavalier, or Ford Escape, or ______________ (fill in the blank), in front of a fire hydrant yesterday, somewhere in America, as well... but... ;)

Echelon Cycles

Took my bike in here for an overhaul and was treated very well.  My experience was: friendly and knowledgeable staff, excellent wrenchwork, prompt turnaround, meticulous cleaning, reasonable pricing...and they are looking to join our discount program.  Principals are Pablo and Daniel.

Lower the LG Tower Protest Ride-- Sunday, April 27

Submitted by Cyndi on Wed, 04/09/2014 - 3:36pm

NYCC members are invited to join NJBWC, BTCNJ and Bike New York in this protest ride against the variances granted LG Electronics by the borough of Englewood Cliffs. While the variances allowed additional development and a building height nearly four times the current borough zoning code, there are serious concerns in the transportation plan that the borough approved, regarding the safety of cyclists along Hudson Terrace, which abuts the LGE property. If you would like more details, please contact me at [email protected]

Bad new on WNYC re LG on Palisades

Submitted by Sir Roger on Wed, 04/09/2014 - 1:05pm

Don't know if anyone heard but there was an interview withe so called Public Affairs Dir of LG   Who basically said that  the building was going through no matter what. And for someone who is supposed to be some kind of public ambassador for the company he came off as having a huge bad attitude.

a total bully. Many American companies are so entrenched in the structure of this country they basically run it. Democracy try oligarcy. In other news, and I find this particularly outrageous, the Senate upheld companies right to penalise employees who share their pay details. How soon before there is a camera in every room and a chip in the brain.

River Road aka Henry Hudson Drive

I rode River Road this morning and there is a rock side blocking about 1/3 of the road on left side about 3/4 of the way up to the Parkway Police Station.

Fort George Hill (and other parts of uptown) to get VERY friendly for us cyclists!

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Tue, 04/08/2014 - 8:39pm

"DOT will install Upper Manhattan’s first protected bike lane this summer, pending an endorsement from Community Board 12.

The parking-protected lane would run north-south on Fort George Hill, which is one-way southbound for drivers, between Fairview Avenue and Dyckman Street/Nagle Avenue. Its installation would be part of a slate of new bike facilities and refurbishments planned for Washington Heights and Inwood, which DOT initially revealed last spring. DNAinfo reports that DOT brought the plans back before the CB 12 transportation committee on Monday.

shorter route after climbing up to orchards

Submitted by JuneR on Tue, 04/08/2014 - 4:00pm

Was wondering if after reaching the orchards,  is there a better way ( and shorter ) to come back down again and ride back to the GW.   OR just to back track, using the same route as going up?

Thanks
