Who's up for a ride on the Columbia Trail?

Submitted by J S on Tue, 06/09/2015 - 4:50pm

Hey there, I'm thinking about putting together an NYCC ride on the Columbia Trail.

The Columbia is a former rail line, which was converted into a hardpack trail, about 15 miles long.  It's got a slight incline, but is generally flat and fairly easy to navigate.  The road is relatively smooth, so it can be done on a cross bike, possibly other road bikes as long as your tires are wide.  There's also an ice cream parlor in High Bridge, near one end of the trail.

An out-and-back will be around 30 miles, with a few extra miles for ice cream. ;)

NYC Marathon Coaching/Training Program Recommendation

Submitted by DRosenberg on Tue, 06/09/2015 - 12:58pm

Can anyone recommend a NYC Marathon Coaching/Training program?

Has anyone done the 16-week program at JackRabbit geared for the NYC Marathon?  Your thoughts?

Can anyone recommend a club similar to NYCC for running?

Thanks.

New York City to Atlantic City/Margate Bike Route

Submitted by Mkreitman on Tue, 06/09/2015 - 8:51am

I have to go to Atlantic City and then to Margate.  Does anyone know of a bike route from New York City to Margate, New Jersey, or at least Atlantic City?

Brooklyn Bridge alert for tonight!

There is a Poetry Walk tonight at 6:30 PM. I expect major trouble getting across the bridge. http://gothamist.com/2015/06/08/bill_murray_poetry_walk.php

I'm going to leave work early to attempt to avoid this.

Chamois creme recs?

I've been using Beljum Budder and love it but it seems to have gone out of business. What I liked about it is that it seemed to last a long time. Anyone have a brand they love? Thanks!

With most of the people involved wearing black and yellow jerseys? But the only writing on the jerseys visible from across the street was "2015" on their sleeves? This was apparently The Ride to Conquer Cancer.

I wasn't out on the new members' rides, but also happened to be riding through this part of Westchester.

Hello —

I'm traveling from the city up to the Catskills area (Woodstock, Shandaken, Phoenicia, Tannersville, etc) — all stops that Trailways Bus services — during the summer months.

Has anyone traveled with their bikes on this specific Trailways line leaving from Port Authority on a weekend (say Friday afternoon/evening), returning to the city on Sunday afternoon? Has it ever been so crowded that there was a danger of not getting the bike on board?

Any pointers and recommendations regarding the safe travel and transport would be helpful. Thanks. — John

Thanks and congrats to the Newcomers' organizers, volunteers and ride leaders

501 Paving

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Sun, 06/07/2015 - 3:54pm

I was thrilled to discover today that 501 has been newly repaved from E. Clinton north to almost Broadway.  What a treat!  Unfortunately, the rest of the way north still sucks.  Hopefully it will follow suit soon!
