Route advice: NYC-Ithaca
Hi everyone. I'm working on a Brooklyn to Ithaca route for an expedition later this summer. I'm planning to do it in probably three days - mileage something like 100 + 100 + 50. Of course I know the benefits of using MNR/NJT to skip some urban miles, but I like to start with my wheel touching my stoop.
Currently thinking something roughly like this:
Vigil for Vision Zero - Tuesday, July 14 at 7 pm
Families for Safe Streets is sponsoring a mammoth vigil for Vision Zero on Tuesday, July 14 at 7 pm at Union Square Park North. The aim is to help change the way our culture views crashes on the road. The organizers ask folks to wear yellow to the vigil--a signal of hope for a climate that values respect and accountability on the road.
Over 700 people have already RSVP'ed. More are wanted. Every voice counts.
Central Park Event this Weekend
Anyone starting a ride in Central Park (or planning to do laps): this came in from the Central Park Coservancy.
"Luis Palau concert this Saturday will impact the Drives beginning as early as Thursday evening through Tuesday. Recreational users of the Drive should be extra cautious on the East and West Drives between 72nd St and 90th St."
Apparently they will be setting up barriers on the drives. The set-up will happen Thursday-Friday; the take-down will happen Sunday-Monday. (I don't think the barriers will actually close the drives, but space will be limited.)
