Bike advocacy: Take back the streets from UBER

Submitted by CWood on Sat, 07/18/2015 - 2:19pm

Uber phoned me at noon today, when I was sleeping in, begging, "We need your help!"

So I got up and wrote the following to my councilmember, deBlasio, Mark-Viverito, and Rodriguez. I ride a lot in the city and constantly encounter violations and threats from this black plague.

Feel free to copy and paste.

Saturday July 25th Hamptons C Ride Swim Ride to Montauk

Submitted by BrianHammerstein on Fri, 07/17/2015 - 11:46am

Dear C riders,

Hamptons weather for Saturday July 25th is looking perfect for both cycling and ocean swimming. While the weather in the tri-state area arches up to 90, in the Hamptons it will be in the low 80's, low wind, overcast. Please consider joining us as we take the LIRR to Bridgehampton, cycle to East Hampton Main Beach, swim in the ocean, shower, cycle to lunch at Clam Bar, then cycle up to the Montauk Lighthouse and back down for some Roasted Vegetable Pizza and Montauk Microbrewery beer. It's the best of the Hamptons in one day, this time including what looks like the perfect weather.

You'll LUVVVV the German word I just learned in spoking a new wheel!

Doppeldickend.

It means double butted.

This is not to be confused with "schmuck," which I yelled at a German driver in a Mercedes-Benz who ran me off the road on an Italian mountain, only to later realize he probably thought I was calling his car a jewel, which is what schmuck means in German.

Heads up: 177th street milled

Submitted by BHafkin on Thu, 07/16/2015 - 7:57am

177th street between Ft. Washington and Cabrini has been milled. It's pretty choppy and gravelly, bad even for a milled street. Proceed with caution!

For the record, many of the streets in WaHi have been milled. In the long run this will be great, but it's taking a very long time for those streets to be paved.
