Temperature-Wise, How High Will You Go?

Submitted by jpl9 on Sat, 06/30/2018 - 5:36pm

At what point on a humid day do you say it is just too hot to ride?  (So far, for me, never, as I head out before sunrise .  But tomorrow should present an interesting test case.)

Dear Winning Raffle Ticket Winners,

Please send me your email and your location, so Peloton Magazine can begin your free subscription. Also, if you were fortunate to also have won a jersey and/or a complete kit, please send me your correct size. Be aware that the jerseys and bibs run small and are unisex, so please take that into consideration, when ordering your items. Finally, new subscriptions take a couple months, so please be patient.

Cyclist collision this AM with garbage truck in Central Park

Submitted by nepstein on Fri, 06/29/2018 - 4:21pm

http://gothamist.com/2018/06/29/cyclist_struck_central_park.php

I'm a friend of the cyclist - truck turned into West Dr against the traffic light. Rider coming downhill from the north at 20+mph had the green, but was forced into a skid when he tried to brake, colliding with the truck.

Even though Park is now "car free" maintenance vehicles are still a hazard.

We need a coordinator for each of the three ride levels for the All Class Ride on Sunday, August 5.  You would need to:

  • Determine new route or use last year's which I have
  • Post Ride Listing and manage it
  • Get other ride leaders
  • Lead the ride and have a blast

Epic Ride Weather - interesting forecasting app that tracks your route

Submitted by RLMeyer on Tue, 06/26/2018 - 7:45pm

just learned about an app for IOS and Android called Epic Ride Weather

you connect to a route from Ridewithgps or Strava or a few other sources

you input date and time of ride start and your estimated speed

it then generates a set of charts showing temperature, precipitation, wind speed and wind direction based on the time and place you will be along the route

I believe it uses Dark Sky (another good app) as its data source

Update, Please!

I just noticed that the printable membership card on the Membership Directory page is still from 2017. I know we're already half-way thru the year, but it would still be nice to have a 2018 version.

Thanks.

Central Park road work this morning !!

Submitted by EWirth on Tue, 06/26/2018 - 8:51am

Please use extreme caution at the first descent before Harlem Hill. There are two large cuts in the road and no warning at the top of the descent. I reported this to The Central Park Conservancy only to be told this work was being done by the NYC DOT. Hopefully the cuts in the road will be filled today.

Bear mountain for a first timer

Submitted by Robbied on Mon, 06/25/2018 - 11:33pm

Hi guys, I am looking to get to bear mountain this weekend to practise some climbing and I would like to get there by public transport. I assume a lot of people just ride there from the city but I am not looking to do a super long ride and I just wanna hit the climbs. Can anybody please tell me how far the climb actually is up bear mountain and if it’s accessible by train from the city? Many thanks!
