You Won't Believe It!!!

Submitted by CWaaser on Mon, 06/25/2018 - 7:46pm

That wretched, cratered road surface at the intersection of Lydecker & Glenwood has finally been repaved! Smooth as glass. It's the first time it's been repaved in the 25 years I've been riding these roads. And it's very recent - I went thru there last Tuesday and it was its usual mess.

Bike seat discomfort

Submitted by Donrider on Mon, 06/25/2018 - 3:34pm

Hi.  I'm an incredibly slow rider, but I think the NYCC and cycling are both terrific.  I switched to a flatbar road bike in hopes of finding a more comfortable ride.  However, I still find the seat becomes uncomfortable after a short time.  I'm trying all sorts of adjustments.  Has anyone else dealt with this?  I'd appreciate any thoughts and advice.

Ride Cannondale Tandems with the Blind

Submitted by BrianHammerstein on Sun, 06/24/2018 - 5:58pm

InTandem pairs sighted and blind people on tandem bicycles provided by Cannondale and KHS. We meet in Central Park on Saturday mornings and Thursday evenings. All of our events are free. Come ride a Cannondale Road tandem with Ultegra and belt drive or a smooth Cannondale 29er tandem. It gives you a special gentle core workout you can't get any other way that will make you more stable when you get back on your single. We give you all the training you need to be safe and enjoy the ride. You can't beat the motivation of another person with whom your pedals are linked. You don't have to be a strong cyclist to enjoy. I ride C-12.

Road Bike Rentals (Bay Area - Pleasanton/Livermore/Dublin)

Submitted by BJalan on Thu, 06/21/2018 - 8:40pm

Hi - I am looking to rent a carbon road bike (size 56/57cm) for a week or weekend (depending) when I am there in last weekend of June/early July. The places I have contacted are giving me daily rental rates of $100-120 for a carbon (seems high!) and $60/day for aluminium bikes. I was wondering if anyone has any specific stores they recommend in the Dublin/Livermore area which may have better deals or give discount to NYCC members? Thanks.

Rally for Speed Cameras Tonight Thursday, June 21

Submitted by HSchachter on Thu, 06/21/2018 - 11:05am

As many readers know, the New York State legislature failed to pass a law extending the use of safety cameras at New York City schools. Speeding drivers are a major cause of motorist-cyclist crashes. Along with street redesign, we need serious enforcemnt of the speed laws we have including the proven tactic of safety cameras for drivers who go over the limit by more than 10 miles.

Governor Cuomo says that he favors the safety camera bill. So far so good. But he has not put anything like enough energy into getting the legislature to pass it. The legislature adjourned yesterday but can go back into a brief session to pass the bill as it did in 2017 to pass other laws. Please come out and let Governor Cuomo know that safety is an important concern for New York voters.

"Ms. Brackett was found Wednesday in a grassy area about 30 feet off a lakefront bike path near 3900 South. At least one neck vertebra was fractured, according to WTTW.

Though authorities still aren’t sure what happened, her family believes it was an accident because there was damage to her helmet. She often biked for training."
