SRAM Force - Durability?

Submitted by rrlk83 on Sun, 01/22/2012 - 11:04am

I've got my eye on a bike with a SRAM Force gruppo, but have heard that SRAM equipment breaks down quite often (i.e. is in for repairs more than comparable the Shimano equipment).

Any thoughts/advice/recommendations?

advice for a crackling knee

Submitted by GYang on Sun, 01/22/2012 - 10:48am

My left knee makes a distinct crackling noise when I straighten it. I don't notice it when riding, partly because there is too much other noise, but also because my leg doesn't quite straighten to the point when the noise starts. I don't feel anything.

Should I be worried?

Are there excercises to deal with this?

Should I see a someone about this? (recomendations?)

Thanks!

Submitted by nymultisport on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 7:11pm

Three participants for tomorrow's Harriman Hike have caught a bug. With five cars, we've spots for SIG members whose Sunday bike rides have been canceled. If you want to join, don't belong to the SIG, but have Stabilicers or Microspikes, etc. and a hiking pole or two, email/call Ken <9PM.

Membership renewal -- confusion

Submitted by TMantione on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 6:19pm

Am I mistaken by remebering that the membership dues for 2012 were "raised" to $ 30.00 but will now allow for a couple to register for this one price ???   .. I have been regestering for a "single " for many years , however, if the above policy is correct, can I  include my wife to the new membership? . when I visited the" renew now" link I did not see an option to include a second person . Even the paper format did not have this option.. Perhaps I'm mistaken in my above assumption !!! ???

Ciao.

X-country skiing in central park today

Submitted by DRosenberg on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 11:31am
Anyone who wants to go x-country skiing today on the bridal path in central park contact me at cell 917 4493000 or my wife's cell 917 825 5921. I am low on battery life. All ability levels welcome. You will need your own skis. There is no shop in manhattan and I believe all of NYC that rents them. Stores like ems that rent skis elsewhere in the country do not rent them in new York. Neither does paragon. Princeton ski shop has closed. If scandinavian ski shop still exists they didn't rent them in the past. Campor in Bergen and ski barn in Bergen don't rent them. I don't know of a store in rockland. If there is an outer borough shop or one in westchester that you know that rents them, please post? Has anyone been on the on the bridal path today to report conditions?

What Bike should I buy for the Etape?

Submitted by Spin on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 8:32am

This summer I have entered the Etape du Tour.  My current bike is just an entry level road bike, so I am looking to buy a better bike that will cope with the hills and be a step up for me generally.  I have had a look around but there are so many options out there that i'm not really sure where to start.  Can anyone offer any advise on what I should be looking for / considering when i make my purchase?

Thanks

Alex
