If you're thinking about riding the 5 boro for charity...

Submitted by TLipshie on Wed, 02/08/2012 - 6:03pm

I'd like to encourage you to ride for a charity near to my heart, Bronxworks. All money raised goes to enrichment programs for children living in three shelters for homeless families in the South Bronx. I'd be happy to tell you more about it, just email me.

Even if you don't pick us, doing this ride for charity makes the ride much more pleasant. Although the first few miles are slow, they're far from hazardous, and once you're out of the park it's a pleasure. For those of you doing the sigs it's nice and flat, makes a good day after ride.

CYCLING 109

Submitted by AResnick on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 10:34am

Getting close to spring-only couple more of these:  As the weather has been pretty good this year; running wasn't much of a NEED.  If you tried running; it is time to cut back to mostly cycling.  Running once; or twice a week still wouldn't hurt; just in case we get some Feb-early March snow storms.  As for riding time to start ramping up distance/speed; depending on your goals for this year.  If you HAVE been riding a bunch:  good time to start adding some harder short sessions.  And on the weekends; maybe going a bit longer.  Remember; if it is coldish and you're tired and sleepy after a longish ride-not unusal-it takes extra energy to stay warm.  SIGs are soon; so is SPRING series  and lots of biking stuff!  &nbs

Seville diner in Westwood has closed

Submitted by abrowning on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 6:39am

Its actually completely gone-  space cleared for a 24 hr CVS, according to a waiter at Jack's Cafe, where we stopped for brunch, after seeing no Seville diner.    A SIG institution gone.  Jack's was good, btw (on Broadway, just after the right turn to Seville).  but way too small for a SIG group.

A petition to restore Bicycle Access to all NJ Transit Rail Stations

Submitted by NWeissman on Sun, 02/05/2012 - 11:43pm

Dear Commissioner Simpson,

I am writing to ask you to rescind the ban on the boarding and deboarding of bicycles at low-level platform NJ TRANSIT train stations.

Since 1998 NJ TRANSIT has allowed bicycle access on all off-peak trains at all stations. Many bicycling passengers not only use their bicycle to get to their station of origin but also take their bicycles with them on the train so they can then ride the last few miles to reach their final destinations.

Prospect Park Laps-SIG Preparation

Submitted by GFinn on Sun, 02/05/2012 - 3:02pm

I just want to see if there are any other Brooklynites that would be interested in some early morning (6:00AM) laps/hill repeats in Prospect Park Tuesday (2/7) & Thursday (2/9). Trying to jump start the season and get ready for the A19 SIG; anyone welcome just email.

Thanks,

Gordon Finn
