My frame cracked during the move - how bad is it?

Submitted by aniasat on Sun, 03/25/2012 - 9:42pm

Hello All,

I recently moved from CA to Manhattan, and during the move the top part of my frame over the rear wheel on my bicycle has a gray spot (a small crack in the carbon where the grey area is about the size of a dime).

I am trying to decide whether the frame is "dead" and needs replacement or if its a blemish thats okay to ride with.  I have approached 3 bike stores and two of them said that I need to replace the frame.

The last store I checked this at (bicycle habitat) also said that I need to replace it  I have had great experience buying other things at this store and have had very good customer service.

Are there any members based out of Williamsburg /greenpoint/LIC areas? I wanted to get a group of people together for some social and ride ideas.

MAKE SURE WEAR YOUR HELMET WHEN RIDING

Crash yesterday during SIG ride on 9W while doing pacelining, my front wheel clip the rear wheel of other rider, when down at the speed of over 20 mph, luckily I can still ride back home and only got minor rash on shoulder, thigh and leg, no broken bone (knock on wood) but my helmet are not so lucky, the impact cracked it seriously, imagine what happen to my skull if I am not wearing my helmet, I truly believe it save my life.

Does anyone know the condition of the Orange Heritage Trail and NY State Bicycle Route 17?  Would anyone recommend taking it?  I am thinking about using it to go to the Poconos.

I'm not sure they're legit just because prices are so redic. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

FWIW - I have found that putting moisturizing lotion on my hands before working on my drive chain makes cleaning my hands a lot easier afterwards.
