Campy 11sp Chain looking for Local Bike Shop

Submitted by Sir Roger on Thu, 03/29/2012 - 7:49pm

I am waiting for my new Campy groupset to arrive and have a quick question re chains..

Does anyone know which shops might have the campy tool for the 11 sp chain. I will be building the bike up myself but don't feel the need to invest in a Campy chain tool. Anybody know of anywhere in Brooklyn thats Campy savvy..where I can have them link the chain.

Thanks

BTW I know about KMC and IRD links and will carry one on the road. But I thought I might use the original system, if theres someone nearby.. I am in Greenpoint.

How To Get From New Jersey To Norwalk

Submitted by MiamiMarty on Thu, 03/29/2012 - 5:31pm

I am riding from Jacksonville, Fl., to Maine in June and have a situation -- how do I get from the shore in New Jersey to Norwalk, Ct., without going all of the west around Newark and the industrial area west of Manhattan?

One suggestion was to take the passenger ferry from the Atlantic Highlands to the base of the Brooklyn Bridge -- but how do I negotiate the city without getting crushed by a bus or 18-wheeler? All suggestions are appreciated and welcomed.

NEW Ride Library SIG Archives

Submitted by CWaaser on Wed, 03/28/2012 - 8:02pm

We have created 3 new "Regions" in the Ride Library: A-SIG; B-SIG; C-SIG.  Within each of these, we are archiving the cue sheets from each year's SIG.  the 2011 archive for the A-Classic and B-SIGs are complete; the A19-SIG is almost complete; and the C-SIG is still a work in progress, but several rides are posted.

Our purpose with this is two-fold: first, it will provide a documentation of the routes used from year to year and how they change; second, these are, for the most part, routes that anyone may now do.  The caveat is that in a few instances a diner has closed or a particular street has become less bicycle-friendly.

We encourage you to use the Ride Library.  Please let us know if you have any problems with it.

These guys were cool enough when they ran Brooklyn Bike & Board, but now they've outdone themselves:

First bike shop I've seen get 5 stars on Yelp. Maybe the reviewers had one too many!

Unless your Saturday train is a designated bike train, you're SOL? From the current LIRR bike rules page:

Bidding wars were in evidence on March 26 at the Kids Ride Club Benefit as auction hawks counted down till the 8 PM silent auction close.

To City Council Member Diana Reyna, the Crosby Street Hotel and manager Jakob Hansen, Crumpler, EMS, REI, Bike Habitat, Grace Pineda, Liane Montesa, Ed Fishkin, Laurie Chittenden and the host committee...and the numerous NYCC members and friends and businesses who contributed goods and services to this wonderful silent auction and those who made outright generous donations to KRC.....thank you for making this a huge success.

Hopefully this is viewable by all.

Ironman U.S. Championship (aka "Ironman NYC") will use these steps as part of the "run" on August 11 and just published this guide to crossing the GWB.
