*Tour de Yonkers*, September 30, 2012 - now posted in Ride Listings

Submitted by JFinder on Mon, 09/10/2012 - 6:37pm

[edited]  Thanks for your emails.

Group ride for the Tour de Yonkers, scheduled for September 30, 2012.  Note, there's an entry fee.  See:  www.yonkersbikeclub.org for basic information.

I'm trying to get more details about the route.  The ride listing will be updated as I get more information.

We'll ride the 40-mile route as a group and then continue on to somewhere else such as Scarsdale or Mamaroneck for a late lunch.

Can you recommend a place to get a top of the line bike fitting?

Submitted by SLaRue on Mon, 09/10/2012 - 6:36pm

Only when I do Century rides do I have problems with my IT band on right knee. I am assuming it is an adjustment my usual cycle shop, Larry & Jeff's on 79th and 3rd can not fix. can you recommend a place for a full bike fitting? I have been trying to schedule at Chelsea Piers and get voice mail and no one calls back.

Appreciate any advice.

Help! Looking for some coaching (cycling that is)

Submitted by markynola on Mon, 09/10/2012 - 5:45pm

Hi, I started cycling after a running injury (I'm sure a familiar story) about 6 months ago. At first, I thought of it as a sort of punishment but now, I LOVE riding and have really started to increase my speed and mileage. However, I really need help with learning some of the basics of not only maintenance, but on basic riding skills. I just found out I have been riding with a psi of 40. I'm afraid to change certain gears for fear that my chain will fall off and I won't be able to put it back on :) Is there anyone out there who perhaps coaches?

thanks,

Marky (girl not a boy nickname :)

Some route questions

Submitted by ZBernstein on Mon, 09/10/2012 - 1:17pm

Hi all,

I'm celebrating a major milestone (passed my PhD comps!), so I'm considering a three-day credit-card tour either this weekend or next, linking up some of the wilder areas around here. My current route ideas are described below. I haven't ridden most of these roads, so I'd like to see what the collective wisdom has to say about them.  Also, if you can recommend places to stay in Port Jervis or Woodstock, places to eat along the way, highlights you think I might be missing out on, other dream-ride ideas, etc., please let me know.

A Few Things to Consider Before You Cancel Your Ride in Light of Impending Rain

Nate Silver, the NY Times election wonk, has an article in yesterday's NY Times Magazine, The Weatherman is not a Moron. This article, from a book coming out this month, examines uncertainty in predictions. Yes, weather forecasting is improving, but shear number crunching power of bigger computers isn't the only reason, thus the thrust of the piece.

Officer Perez again

Submitted by Kam on Sun, 09/09/2012 - 3:29pm

Thank you Officer Perez for ticketing me 09/09 this morning with "Rules of the Road". Officer Perez says it's $50 fine, I'll know more on Monday. Also I'd like to thank him for being judge and jury - he ticketed the 3 of 4 of us and let one of the fellow cyclist off with a warning to "watch your son". I know his actions with protect all of us, including the cars making 3point u-turns on Riverside Drive and the cars that buzz cyclists...

Repair shop in Williamsburg

Submitted by philjeffs on Sun, 09/09/2012 - 10:39am

Hello there,

I'm looking for a friendly (and capabable) repair shop in or around Williamsburg, BK.

I moved to the US from the UK a couple of months ago, and my bike suffered a little damage in transit. I have an SRAM Force drivetrain, and the largest chainring is a little bent. It actually rides fine, but it does throw the chain on occasion. Ideally I'd find someone who can repair it, but if that's not possible I'll need someone to source and install a replacement.

Thanks in advance!

— Phil
