Anyone planning on doing the Pedal Paddle this weekend?

Submitted by iforst on Mon, 06/17/2013 - 11:17pm

The Rockland Bicycling Club is holding a forum on June 19th from 7-8:30 p.m. about the Pedestrian/Bike path on the new Tappan Zee Bridge with Cuomo's liaison on the project.

The email invitation I received is below.  I have been told that NYCC members are welcome to attend.

Thanks to Claire Mordas and Julie Blackburn - Bloodroot Cafe Ride

Submitted by LWintner on Mon, 06/17/2013 - 4:44pm

Thanks for a wonderful ride on Saturday.  The route was great, especially when we got to the waterfront, the leaders were fabulous, and the group was fun to ride with.  The feminist, vegan Bloodroot Cafe was definitely fun - not our ordinary deli stop for sure!!!

Thank You Claudia for Another Successful Ride and Row

.

Thank you for organizing the fifth R & R to Oyster Bay. thank you for pre-ordering our lunches and arranging for the best weather on a Saturday this year !

Thank you for juggling the 2 separate ride listings, answering emails, waitlists and coordinating additional vessels and coaches. (For leaders who are irked by non-committed sign ups, try adding a time-sensitive fee to the equation.)

Recommended Cycling Destinations Upstate?

Submitted by iforst on Sun, 06/16/2013 - 11:09pm

I'm looking for a cycling destination somewhere roughly between NY and Ottawa Ontario (give or take a few hours). Does anyone have any suggestions? Ideally, it would be someplace non-cyclists would enjoy as well.

Thanks!

How does a beginner get started?

I recently stumbled onto nycc.org.  The rides and the community look great.  But here's my question: How do I get started?

Let me say a little about myself.  I've been living/working here for a couple of years, but really do want to find a fun/demanding physical activity and not be a couch potato.  I think I'll enjoy riding with other people, going on day trips, and my goal is to become a safe and skilled rider.

Route recommendations up to Mohegan Lake?

Right now the plan is just to follow the Google Maps directions.  Does that link look like a reasonable route?  It's almost all trails: west side bike path -> Putnam Trail -> South County Trail -> North County Trail.

300K Brevet Saturday 6/22

Submitted by Steve Vaccaro on Sat, 06/15/2013 - 7:20pm

This is the second ride organized by Long Island Randonneurs.  Starts and ends in Bethpage, goes out to Orient Point.  The lead group in the LIRando 200K last month finished with a 16 MPH average page (including 2 ferry trips!). There is a train, but let me know if you are driving and can provide a lift.  Registration closes Tuesday 6/18.
