Excerpts from Presidents Speak (on advocacy)
Excerpts from 1/14 "Presidents Speak"
[Note: My views, not official Club policy.]
Back in November, when members were arguing whether the Club should even engage in advocacy, Jerry and I would get an email from Eden inviting the new President to speak on the topic. So tonight I will humbly attempt to offer my views.
But before I do, I want to say that, even in my two week tenure as President, I have come to understand how special this Club is. The ride programs, highlighted up by the SIG in Spring and Escape New York in the Fall, are examples of volunteerism at its finest.

Snow/slush and some icing accumulations northerly of NYC don't bode well for safe, nor pleasant, conditions on the rail trail.

Central Park roadway - is it usually (annoyingly) salted?
I haven't been in CP for a while. When I went out this morning, I was annoyed (as a biker) to find that the road had been salted.
Meanwhile, the streets outside the park were perfectly clear.
For those who ride in CP often, have you found that the loop is often salted more proactively than the surrounding streets?

Fractured Pelvis
Before New Years I had a fall which caused a single stable fracture of one of my Pelvic bones. Can anyone recommend an Orthopedic Doctor who specializes in this or at least some experience in this area? In addition, I would like to get PT to get me up to speed (so to speak). Someone who works with cyclists would be ideal. I am in Westchester so would prefer to see medical people here but can also go to NYC. Thank you in advance for your assistance Dave
Quick and early to Piermont 8AM cancelled for weather
Looks to dicey. This is the 8:00 not the 9. Hal and Jerry may still go...you'll have to watch for any postings from them. Regrets but there is rain to the SE and snow to the NW and it is just too hard to tell where it will all go.
THIS is pacelining!

Further note: Those were simpler times, weren't they?
Central Park Medical Unit
I just thought I would remind everyone that there's a special phone number for medical emergencies in Central Park: 212-585-0911. If you ride in Central Park, put it in your cell phone at the top of your contacts so you can access it quickly. This number goes to a 24/7 dispatcher who knows the locations in Central Park. When the volunteer Central Park Medical Unit is on call (mostly just weekends) that unit can respond within 1-3 minutes. When they are not on call, the dispatcher can direct another ambulance to the correct location in the park. If you just call 911, the response time will be much longer because the 911 dispatchers may not be able to direct an ambulance to the correct location within the park.
