B SIG Preview Rides (B15 and B17) postponed from Jan 25 to Feb 2
The weather gods are against us this Saturday - snow/ice/frigid temperatures. So, we're postponing. We've automatically transferred everyone who was signed up for the January 25 rides over to the February 2 rides. If you cannot ride on February 2, please remove yourself from the listing as soon as possible to give someone else a chance.
Regards, Claire, Ken, Linda, Sandra
post-snow conditions of 9W?
Any insight as to conditions on 9W betw. Palisades and Piermont?
Snow/ice/debris make it unpassable?
Or OK enough for road bikes/skinny tires?
I appreciate your feedback.
Nasty accident epilogue
Got the police report and my bike back from the Alpine PD. All the report said was that the accident took place "south of exit 14." The bike is in pretty good condition. The rear rim is the only obviuos thing that is trashed. (I haven't closely inspected the frame/fork for damage. I don't have the hand/arm strength to lift the bike.) The rear rim has a large dent (almost 2 inches long) on the drive side. It looks like someone took a vice-grip and squished in one side of the rim. If you stand behind the bike, you can see that the rear rim is twisted, not just out of true. The front wheel is fine, and the tires are still mounted on both rims. (Tubes still have air in them.) The handlebar tape and saddle ar

Hello to my friends in the "frozen tundra of Lambeau Field" (footall fans will know from where this comes),.... or dear NYCC members,
Cassettes of SRAM steel versus Shimano steel
I usually use Shimano Ultegra and XT cassettes but I could not pass up the price of a SRAM Cassette so I put the PG 970 on my mountain bike.
My maintenance consists of installing a new chain once the chain reaches the .75% minimum stretch interval. With an Ultegra and XT cassette $85 I usually can run 3 to 4 new chains on each cassette before the next new chain begins to skip on the most used cog under heavy load. I figure that is pretty good value.
Welcome SRAM $38 cassette. The new cassette lasted one chain. When I changed to the second chain it began to skip under heavy load on the most worn cog. Not good. This is probably what led to the term cheap becomes expensive.
Mystery Point ... STUDDED TIRES
WTF! #3 - Mystery Point is on ... but a local report is that wet, dirt roads will freeze over night ... so STUDDED TIRES are highly advised.
