Call for Volunteers: Web Designer / UX
Hey folks,
As part of our plan to revamp our website, we're looking for a club member with website design experience to help us pick a color scheme, look at our User Experience and find areas for improvement/simplification, and do whatever else a designer does :)
We expect this to be a low calorie exercise over the next few months. If you have the skills and want to contribute back to the club we'd love to have you! Please email [email protected]
With gratitude,
The NYCC Web Team
Watch out on the CP west drive at 72nd Street
I've seen a police cruiser and its occupant writing up two cyclists (one each morning) for running the light there both of last two mornings, around 8:45 AM. He was set up just below where the drive access comes down from 72nd/CPW.
I can't say the attention seems misplaced in this case; this one is a bad light to run.
New Paltz to NYC - what's a good safe way to get back to the city?
I'm staying up just outside of New Paltz for Labor Day with the family this weekend and they have allowed me to ride the bike back home.
Does anyone have any good suggestions on which way to go back to the city?
Even better, is anyone interested in joining me?
I'll be leaving relatively early on Monday 7 September and I'll go at ca. 18-20 mph. on flat terrain, depending on health, beer consumed the night before, terrain, and general grumpiness. :-)
Gearheads - Do I need a Garmin as opposed to just a Cyclometer with my new bike?
I've used a simple cateye cyclometer forever and it gives me what I want, cadence, speed and distance. But on Saturday I'm buying a new bike ( slight brag ) and wondering if I should get a gps type device. I'm not interested in spending a ton on it especially since I'm already spending money on a bike, pedals, etc. If I'm being shortsighted by not getting a garmin type device then what should I look to get? I have a Wahoo heart rate monitor that I use at home but I'd prefer a simple/stupid device.
By the way, I use the term gearhead in a complimentary way.
River Road (HHudson Dr) Labor Day weekend
Signs on River Road today (9/2) say the Edgewater entrance ( S of GWB) will be closed for the Labor Day weekend.
Perhaps related, today there are barriers on RR north of the Ross Dock Circle and gates S of the Englewood Marina are closed. There are front loaders working on something just N or Ross Dock. I was able get thru, but there were no PIP cops present, so that may change.

Looking for Feedback on New Website Features
We're looking to build a new version of out website. There's no better time for our members to speak up and suggest features and enhancements, as well as vote on the suggestions that others make.
To do so, please visit: http://nycc.org/website-suggestions
TA NYC Century
I'm registered for the TA NYC Century on September 13 and it would be great to ride with fellow NYCC members. Is there anyone else out there who would like to do the route at a fast "B" pace?
Since this isn’t an NYCC event I can’t post this as an official club ride but if you email me we can arrange to meet and ride together.
CP Rules of Etiquette
To the Bucknell cyclist in the blue and orange jersey this morning,
I assume you are new to CP. Here are some general suggestions:
1). We pass on the right, not the left.
2). We most especially do not pass aggressively on the left when all other cyclists have responsibly slowed down for a car that has just stopped in the roadway.
3). The one exception to passing on the right is at the very tightest apex of the Lasker turn. In that case, if a paceline has less than one foot between themselves and the curb, we wait (ten, fifteen seconds?) to pass on the right.
Best,
Nicole
