If you think ticketing cyclists in Brooklyn isn't racial, think again.

...a new study, forthcoming next month, on the disproportionate numbers and rates of criminal summonses for riding bicycles on the sidewalk. “Take just three neighborhoods in Brooklyn,” says Levine.

Tomorrow's (Saturday's) ClimBathon (B-18) moved to Sunday.

Same time (9:30). Same place (Boathouse). Same curmudgeonly leader.

Can one receive red light tickets in the upper half of Central Park?

Submitted by leegf on Fri, 10/09/2015 - 2:13pm

I.e., the portion that is closed off to vehicular traffic? The thought has occurred to me many a time, and I was wondering if I should retain my heightened level of vigilance throughout the entire six-mile loop, or if I can let my guard down (even by just a tad) while in the upper half of the park. I am pretty sure I know what the answer is, but nevertheless wanted to see if anyone had any anecdotes or personal experience to share. Mostly, I'd like to avoid 'gotcha' tickets (e.g., I go through a red - not even pausing to Idaho stop - because the coast was clear and an LEO jumps out from behind a bush and pulls me over, etc.).

Is this only Upper Saddle River? nope! The police in Piermont were kind enough to warn us during ENY.  Now it's up to you.

Word of the day, shoaling

I think there are times when shoaling is a necessary maneuver riding in the city.  In my experience, when you ride up to an intersection with 2 or more Citi bikers in front of you, it takes them quite some time for each one of them to start moving when the light turns green, especially when they are riding side by side and talking to each other.
