Today's ride is...tomorrow.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sun, 10/09/2016 - 8:44am

Here's the note I just sent those signed up for today's, Sunday's ClimBathon/Alt. ClimBathon:

I'm oblivious about everything that goes on outside my apartment except politics. To my somewhat embarrassment, one of those signed up for today's ride--with the odd last name for an enthusiastic cyclist, Walker--brings to my attention this is the weekend we ignore the fact Indians lived here before the Spanish discovered them under the venal guidance of an Italian. Well, no, Eric didn't put it in quite those terms.

CANCELLED - Watchung Reservation and Great Swamp

Submitted by MGrinthal on Fri, 10/07/2016 - 8:40pm

This ride is unfortunately cancelled this weekend due to high likelihood of rain in NJ tomorrow.  The ride has been relisted for Saturday 10/15.

Sorry for the disappointment.  But we'll enjoy those twisty descents much more when they (and we) are dry.

Gravel Rides

Outside of Tallman and Haverstraw Trail, the latter of which I really like what are the best options for a gravel ride, Rockland, Catskills etc. I need to put Rufus T to more use.

PANYNJ Survey at the GWB

Submitted by CLam on Wed, 10/05/2016 - 8:32pm

.

Did a Nyack run this afternoon in the beautiful weather. The PA had a table set up on the NJ side south of the path before the last gate. It only takes 2 mins to fill out. The survey is worded to find out traffic volume (and type/purpose) at different times. I don't know what hours/days they're out there, but I suggested they do it on the weekend to see how bad it gets around 9/10AM. They said they are doing it on weekends also. In the comments I wrote the path is too narrow and it's the most dangerous part of my ride. I forget to put down the blind spots cause head-on collisions.

Too bad all the NYCC foliage rides are in Westchester next few weeks. If anyone is going over the GWB in the next few days, don't just blow by the table. Again, it's short and quick to do.

IT'S 9W CLEANUP TIME - November 13

Submitted by GRoss on Wed, 10/05/2016 - 3:24am

We are responsible for cleaning up a one-mile stretch of 9W from just south of The Market north to Sparkill. We need approximately 20 volunteers to do the job on Sunday, November 13.

Ride Leaders: Organize your November 13 ride to arrive at The Market between noon and 12:30. We have divided "Our" section of 9W into 10 segments, each one-tenth of a mile. You will be given gloves and as many trash bags as you need. The job itself takes about half an hour and then we will give you a ticket worth $10 towards a snack or lunch.

Let me know if you can help so I know how many are coming. The more that come the quicker it is to do the job.

Jerry Ross -- VP Rides.
