Reckless riding along the Hudson

Submitted by Donrider on Tue, 05/26/2020 - 3:23pm

Hi. I'm a proud member of the NYCC, and also one of the slowest riders on the East Coast, possibly in the whole country. But it's a joy to ride in our parks.  I was riding Monday along the Hudson River bikeway, going south, and I was astounded by the recklessness of many riders.  Only half wore helmets, and people passed me on both sides without calling out a warning.  I was curious if others have noticed this. Also, lots of people on motorized bikes and skateboards raced by.  I can only imagine that there will be a lot of accidents in the weeks ahead.  Ride safely.

If you were starting your ride in Sheffield now...

It's 51ø (that's degrees because I don't see how to make a degree sign on the MB)

Bikes on trains... anyone know what the situation is?

Submitted by neil_e_whitfiel... on Fri, 05/22/2020 - 10:14am

Hello all.

I'm posting this to avoid being bad citizen, and to avoid being marooned up the hudson.

My wife and I were planning on cycling from NY to Bear mountain, then getting the train back to Grand central from Manitou on the hudson line. My questions to anyone who has tried it, or knows about these things, are:

  • Are they allowing cyclists onto the trains?
  • Is it safe i.e. have they found a way to manage passanegers safely? Or is it still a stupid/irresponsible thing to do?
  • Is bear mountain open to cyclists?

Thanks all - hop you're all staying safe!

Is a mask mandatory when you ride in New Jersey?

Zwift troubleshooting -- advice please -- losing signal from Kickr

Submitted by adamaston on Tue, 05/19/2020 - 3:19pm

Hi fellow Zwifters, Seeking any smart tips for the below situation...

I've been Zwifting four about two months -- the duration of the pandemic shut down and it's been great, a sanity saver, and a fitness booster. But I'm having constant probelms with my signal dropping between my smart trainer and the Zwift program. It's happening to me about once on every hour-long ride. And today, it happened three times. Driving me bonkers.

My setup: Wahoo Kickr Core, Wahoo Tickr HRM connecting to a MacBook Pro (via Bluetooth) running Zwift with the Zwift companion app open on my iPhone (with Bluetooth turned off). Both on the same network. I've learned to be sure I turn off all other Bluetooth connected devices. That helps, but it's no panacea.

What's a girl to do...
