Announcing the 29th annual NYCC Wheelbuilding and Truing Clinic...sort of.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sun, 01/03/2021 - 3:13am

I can't let Covid interrupt the skein of 28 uninterrupted years of holding a wheelbuilding and wheel truing clinic for NYCC members. But it just ain't gonna happen until Covid relents--which it surely won't do before Lent. So, would-be students of wheelbuilding and truing, bide your time. Class will come before 12/31.21. I think. And hope.

For those wondering just what this is: You'll bring a rim, spokes, and a hub to class and go home with a perfectly built wheel that you, yourself, will have built. Or arrive with an out-of-true wheel and go home with a perfectly trued one that you'll have trued.

Class is on the Upper Eastside.

Empire State Trail

Submitted by GKaplan on Thu, 12/31/2020 - 5:37pm

. The completed 750-mile Empire State Trail is now fully open. The trail, which is now the nation's longest multi-use state trail, provides a safe and scenic pathway for New Yorkers and tourists to experience New York State's varied landscapes. The entirety of the Empire State Trail runs from New York City through the Hudson and Champlain Valleys to Canada, and from Albany to Buffalo along the Erie Canal.

Please remember to withdraw if you cannot make it.

Sad news from Lloyd's Carrot Cake

Submitted by anniewong on Tue, 12/29/2020 - 2:58pm

For all of us who participate in the SIG (and those in-the-know) and race to get to Lloyd's for their fabulous carrot cake on our return from the Westchester rides, Betty Campbell-Adams, who started it with her husband Lloyd, has passed away.

best viewing spots for Prospect Park fireworks display this New Year's Eve?

Submitted by SRodetis on Tue, 12/29/2020 - 12:05pm

The Park and other sites say Grand Army Plaza (but who wants to be amidst any crowds there) or along Park Drive West (maybe behind the Picnic House on the Long Lawn?) or along Prospect Park West between Grand Army Plaza and 9th Street. I'd lean toward PPW or the Picnic House???

Anyone have local knowledge/experience for feedback on these viewing sites and how crowded or practical they are, or can recommend some others?

I appreciate!

Susan

Noxzema as Chamois Cream?

Submitted by ricrouleur on Tue, 12/29/2020 - 9:19am

I was watching a video of Chris Horner discussing cycling shorts. He said that he always used Noxzema instead of chamois cream. Given the price disparity between Noxzema and chamois cream this is an intriguing idea.

Has anyone ever tried this? If so, how did it work out? Alternatively, has anyone ever heard of this hack before?
