I Believe I Was Assaulted On 9W Today

Submitted by RSchmon on Wed, 01/13/2021 - 12:12am
I’m pretty sure I was assaulted quite violently on 9W today.  I don’t want to jump to conclusions as to what occurred as I have no visual proof, just deduction, but for the minutes after the incident I was certain it was intentional assault as I could think of no other explanation.  I was coming back on 9W having completed River Road north, and I was on that first lengthy decline after getting on 9W from RR.  So I was going about 25mph down that decline, when a car passed going probably 50 to 55 mph and an object hit me hard on the side—around the hip region on my left side.  It was a very heavy hit—akin to a strong leg kicking you in the side as hard as they could, and from a large object, not a stone or a rock, and I screamed in pain and q

In case you missed it, if you're 75 or older or a teacher, first responder or transit worker, you can now get your COVID vaccination shot. If you live in NYC, go to https://vaccinefinder.nyc.gov/, enter your zip code and find a location near you. If you live elsewhere in NY State, go to https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/ and start the process.

All is Not Lost: If I Can Be the Subject of a Magazine Article, ANYONE Can!

"Peloton" magazine -- a really excellent lifestyle journal about bicycling and the cycling experience -- has started a digital magazine called "Around on Bikes" (aroundonbikes.com), focused on bicycle commuting and recreational cycling.

Amazingly enough, they picked up on an Instagram comment of mine, and the result is the following short article:

Anyone want to ride tomorrow, Thursday Jan 7th?

Submitted by michael on Wed, 01/06/2021 - 4:07pm

I’m going to scout this ride, https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34973623, tomorrow. It’s too late to list this, also it’s going to be kinda scouty – if you know what I mean. LMK know if you want to join me.

The Weather is looking good!

It’s a long route but we can always bail at mile 46 and take the train at Tarrytown. Or, we can take Rte. 9W and cut out about 8 miles.

GWB suspension towers’ mirrors

Submitted by Myles Lewis on Mon, 01/04/2021 - 10:39pm

Has anyone noticed that the mirrors on the bridge's suspension towers are often not positioned properly to enable riders to see approaching pedestrians or other riders? I have never seen all four angled the way they should be. Today the westerly one in the eastern tower seemed to be dangling. Has anyone reached out to the Port Authority to alert them? This seems like it would be a very easy fix to make it easier to get through those towers safely.

Does anyone know if the NYCC weekly (Saturday) Racing Development Rides are going to continue? I was really enjoying them.
