Calling all leaders and those who want to lead

Submitted by [email protected] on Wed, 04/14/2021 - 4:27pm

I sent the following message to all ride leaders, but it applies to everyone. If you want to lead a ride speak to your coordinator or to me. If you know or see someone who you think would be a good leader, speak to that person and make them known to your leader is you aren't the leader yourself or your ride coordinator or me:

I write to encourage all of you to watch your fellow riders for signs that one or more could be good ride leaders. If you see someone in your group you think might make a good leader, talk to them, ask our ride leader it that person could pull for a while and watch how they do, and if they show any interest at all, refer them to your leader, coordinator or directly to me.

Any suggestions for bike insurance?   I am also interested in those that had to submit claims.  Thanks.

Avoid the Clinton/Bx. Sci/Lehman Ed Complex

Submitted by mhsimkin on Sat, 04/10/2021 - 2:08pm

If you are riding through the Bronx, avoid the area between Seddwick and Bedford Park Blvd and Goulden and Paul Aves.  Bx Science is a vaccination site.  More traffic than normal, especially weekends.  Cars doubled parked, bike lanes blocked, etc.

Metro North Service on the Harlem Line Update

Submitted by [email protected] on Thu, 04/08/2021 - 4:52pm

This from our liaisons at Metro North:

The Harlem Line is available for bike moves again and we just found out that service has been restored beyond Southeast, all the way up to Wassaic again.  That will begin when the new schedules are in effect next Monday April 12th.

This means we will begin to take train reservations on the Harlem Line after April 12th.

Information on Bike Path Along Hudson River Between Nyack and Rockland Lake

Submitted by RSchmon on Wed, 04/07/2021 - 5:30pm

Access from Nyack to the path is in fact open, though you will not think so!

What we refer to as Anthony's Nose, Rt 6/202, from the traffic circle at Peekskill to the Bear Mtn Bridge will be closed 4/5-16, 9am - 3pm.

This means the access on the eastern side of Bear Mtn Bridge will take 9d north. If you are going to Peekskill, the first opportunity will be South Mountain Pass Road. Likewise, returning from the Bear Mtn Circle, then over the bridge, if you are going to Peekskill, you will need to go over South Mountain Pass Road.

The assumption is that both these roads will be crowded.

For further information, check NYS DOT.

ARE YOU OUR NEW CONTENT EDITOR???

Submitted by PStorey on Mon, 04/05/2021 - 4:08pm
With too much going on in his life, our Content Editor, Marc Simkin has concluded that something in his life has got to go. Unfortunately, that something is the NYCC Board.

It’s a tremendous loss for all of us. Marc has been a superb Content Editor and a devoted Director for close to three years. A stalwart champion of the Club, his views have always been focused, insightful and worth listening to. We will miss him.

Marc has asked me to try to find his successor in the next two weeks, and he would then be available to train that person in the requirements of the job through the end of April.

Content Editor is a crucial job.
