BICYCLE SUNDAYS - Westchester County - The Bronx river Parkway 6.7 miles

Submitted by Quan on Tue, 04/26/2011 - 8:54am

Rode it last year, it's 3 lanes on both side and the surface was great, gps showed 6.7 miles 1 way. Think there was 1 light if i remember correctly, mostly flat but very scenic. I rode up from the bronx last year, which probably took 45 mins going through the south county/putnam trail. Can also get there by metro north but i'm not familiar with this.

They had more dates last year so i think they'll anounce more dates at a later time. Doing the 5 boro this sunday, but will definitly ride up the following sundays.

Inexpensive Tour de France Trip

Submitted by DRosenberg on Mon, 04/25/2011 - 5:21pm

Do any inexpensive Tour de France trips exist?  I am thinking of one where one bikes part of the course and then watches the race?  Either guided or self-guided.

Barring anything unforeseen and barring any wet weather/wet pavement, I will be at Engineers' Gate at 5:45am.  I look forward to seeing you then.

Loretta, Thais, and Danielle - please update your NYCC account information with an emergency contact name/phone number (that information is currently blank on the sign-in sheet).  Thanks.

Ticket on Riverside/165, no hand signal!!

Submitted by NSnow on Mon, 04/25/2011 - 12:46pm
I was approaching 165 on Riverside about to turn right to climb the hill when I noticed a police car on the triangle there where the parallel road comes into a v at the light. I slowed way down, looked all around, no cars, green light...so I proceeded thru the light, turning right and began climbing the hill all the way on the right hand side... Half way I up was pulled over. What on earth could be the proble ??? Failure to signal a right hand turn! $130. Honestly! I kid u not! I will be fighting this on principal!

'Law-breaking cyclists threaten pedestrians in busy downtown bike lanes'

Submitted by Mojo on Mon, 04/25/2011 - 8:10am

April 25, 2011 New York Post

Pedestrians and motorists, watch out -- cyclists are abusing their ticket to ride!

Forty-one percent of two-wheeled travelers observed on a pair of SoHo bike lanes last week blew through red lights, pedaled the wrong way, zipped along the sidewalk or rode outside the lanes, a Post investigation found.

The lanes that intersect Lafayette and Prince streets got plenty of use -- 7,182 cyclists rode them between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. over five days last week.

But reporters saw 1,759 of those riders -- 24 percent -- running red lights, narrowly avoiding collisions with pedestrians and cars.
