Ride tomorrow: Woodlawn to Poughkeepsie

Submitted by ACorless on Thu, 08/25/2011 - 1:29pm

A couple of us are riding from Woodlawn (last stop on the 4 train) to Poughkeepsie tomorrow.  100 miles, A21 pace, departing at 8am from Woodlawn.  This is a scenic ride with a decent amount of climbing - message me for the cue sheet if you would like to join us!

Six Gaps / VT

Submitted by gblosser on Wed, 08/24/2011 - 10:27pm

My friend and I will attempt "Six Gaps" in Rochester, VT at the end of September and I want to glean any inside tips you all may have.

If anyone has ever ridden Six Gaps, or any hilly Vermont ride for that matter, please feel free to send any and all advice my way.  We have the route / cue sheet, but are still looking for places to stay and places to eat (i.e. the important stuff).

Thanks!

ps...other than Bear, River Road, and Bradley/Tweed, any recommendations for training would also be greatly appreciated.

59th Street Bridge at Midnight

I'm sure it has been asked before but how safe is the 59th St. bridge at midnight for a cyclist? What about walking? Yes, I know it's now called the Ed Koch bridge but I grew up in Queens.

Dear fellow cyclists

My name is Paul Singleton, I am from the Isle of Wight, a small island just off of the South Coast of Great Britain. I am contacting you firstly to introduce myself and to seek your advice. At this moment in time I am putting together a team to take a Cycle Challenge from New York to Las Vegas. We are planning to set out from New York in March 2012 and we need to be in Las Vegas by the end of April 2012.

Hoboken Bicycle Lane Vote tonight

Submitted by jpiven on Wed, 08/24/2011 - 3:03pm

Hi Folks,

Just fyi, tonight at City Hall in Hoboken there will be a vote on the installation of 10 miles of bicycle lanes.

Anyone who wishes to show support should arrive by 7 pm wearing a bicycle helmet. You need not live here to have an influence. Bike Hoboken's strategy is to show the voting council that a massive throng of intelligent, socially-minded civilians supports safer roads for cyclists and pedestrians, since bike lanes also seem to slow down motor traffic (which in Hoboken is utterly hazardous).

Whether you live in the area or just support a more pedestrian/cyclist-friendly environment, show up or tell all your indiginous friends.

Thanks,

Dr. J
