Paint Damage

Submitted by hiawatha98 on Wed, 08/04/2021 - 9:03pm

Hello,

I have this weird issue with the paint on my bike and this is the second bike this has happened to. The paint will become rubbery and have noticeably more resistance if you run your finger over it. The pain will also appear dull compared to the area around it and almost looks like it has a white coat of something on it. Whenever I tried to clean the paint, it looks as if I’m peeling off a layer of the paint and it create this little holes.

Routes near Woodstock, NY

Submitted by SylviaCarolina on Tue, 08/03/2021 - 11:26am

I'll be in Woodstock, NY for a couple of days, looking for route recommendations from club members or areas/roads that should be avoided. No preference in terms of hills or flats, but trying to keep it under 50 miles.

Much appreaciated!

Is my helmet too old?

Submitted by michael on Tue, 08/03/2021 - 10:36am

The helmet manufacturers say yes but what else would they say?

I found this article on the NY Times Wirecutter site.

Not to reveal any spoilers but the author asserts that the foam can be damaged in an accident but it does not degrade due to age. That foam will outlive us all.

If the color of your helmet has faded from UV light, then that may indicate that shell may have become too brittle to properly contain the foam in an impact.

Also, the straps and attachment hardware can get old and ineffective.

Finally, it might just get too old, grungy, and nasty to put on your head. Not my helmet of course, but yours.

Interesting, no?

The park is 843 acres. The road is 6.1 miles. So, of course, you would take what limited resources you had and deploy them evenly to achieve maximum surveillance, wouldn't you?

South Cty Trail closed! Wed Aug 4th - Fri Aug 6, Mon Aug 9th - Fri Aug 13th

between mile marker 9.5 and 10.5, Irvington, north of Woodlands Lake Area.

I think that is the strech between the Great Hunger Memorial and crossing under the Thruway.

Last turn around point heading north would be at Lawrence Ave (Starbucks).

The only times I have received alerts about closures in the last few months, is when they will actually be closing the tail and not letting anyone pass.

I also don't know if the trails are only blocked during the 9-5 or 24x7.

I have not been able to verify in person during these windows.

Bike Computer

Submitted by BJalan on Mon, 07/26/2021 - 5:48pm

Hi - In the market for a bike computer and its getting a bit confusing with the info overload so i figured i would ask the experts in the club.

I do not need all the bells and whistles so it does not have to be the top of the line model. The ones I have been recommended in rank order so far are:

...wishing it to him personally and directly at the All-Club ride and picnic on August 15th.

He proposes to be there...but he won't be cycling to it.

Happy Birthday, Geo.
