Rides

Submitted by [email protected] on Thu, 07/15/2021 - 6:15pm

Now that the weather is nice, it seems more people want to join a club ride. That's fantastic, but be mindful that some rides have a limit for different reasons.  If you are on the waitlist or have not sign up for the ride, please don't show up and expect the leaders to let you ride with the group.  If you are on the waitlist or haven't sign up for the ride, why not post a ride and allow the others to join you.  And please don't give the leaders a hard time, because they won't let you ride.

Replace cracked Sachs MTB shifter barrel adjuster?

Submitted by isaacb on Mon, 07/12/2021 - 9:54am

Hello. I cracked the barrel adjuster on my 20+ year old Sachs Power Grip shifter. These are hard to find, but seem similar to SRAM Grip Shifts. Does anyone have this part, or an old Sachs or SRAM shifter that I could cannibalize? Alternate: An 8 speed shifter or 3x8. Thanks.

Are there any NYCC groups doing the Five Boro Bike Tour next month?

As you might know the general registration for the Five Boro Bike Tour started yesterday: https://www.bike.nyc/events/td-five-boro-bike-tour/

I'm wondering if there are any NYCC groups (Ride Level and Speed) that plan on riding together.

Well past the tipping point

Evolution is real. Take a look at electric bikes.

A few weeks ago I was riding down 2nd Avenue and came to a stop at the first traffic island crossing the 59th Street Bridge on ramp. I was the only person riding a pedal bike.

A couple of days ago I walked down the island that has the uptown entrance to the 6 train at Astor Place. It appears to be a congregation site for delivery bikes for Grub Hub and its ilk. Not counting bikes, I suspect there were between 12 and 15; not one was a pedal bike.

5+" of rain fell on 9W near Alpine this Thursday afternoon.

All this before the real storm tonight.

It would be prudent to skip aka River Road this weekend. Or at least "heads-up" if it's open on Saturday.

A possible donation for the NYCC

First, the downside of the idea: There are plenty of needy and deserving people in NYC that we don't have to look beyond our area for those deserving of our consideration.

Now the idea. This is from today's NY Times about the devastation wrought by the collapse of that Surfside, FL apartment building:
