I understand that rides may all be full for Saturday. I will be riding tomorrow, and plan to leave 8:30ish from the Lower East Side. I am considering a ride to Brewster via the South County Trailway, or a GWB, 9W, 501 thing out to Piermont. Would be happy for company if that pace (17 on the flats average rolling speed of around 14/15) works for you. I'm a lousy climber, but descend well, particularly after Thanksgiving. The Trailway requires a Metro North pass for the return. I’m not qualified as a ride leader, so this would be unofficial and NOT a club sponsored ride. Non-competitive, no paceline, wait on accents (for me) and breaks as required. Email [email protected].

Hey All, 

I lead a cycling class for Crank Studios and I'm working on creating a winter class specifically for cyclists.  My manager and I are discussing offereing a discounted rate to club members (~$12 per class).  The caveat is that if a discount is offered, I'd have to guarantee a full class. 

The workout would be offered during the winter months, starting the first week of January going through till March.   The class would be 75+ mins.  Day/time aren't set in stone yet, and I'd like some feedback from you guys as to what best fits peoples schedules.  I have availability to lead weekend afternoons or Thursday evenings. 

So what do people think?    Interested???

The ride is full.  In order to keep the group to a manageable size, we are not expanding the rider limit from the original 15  Please don't write to me asking to join beyond the limit.  I understand that both B rides this Sunday are full and that there is more demand than capacity of these two rides -- so I recommend that a couple of those who are interested quickly put together a plan using a route they know with a cue sheet from the library and list another B ride today.

The League of American Bicyclists has an online petition to stop bad legislation in Congress:

"The draft of the Senate's transportation authorization bill, S. 1813 Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act, includes language that would introduce a mandatory sidepath law on roads in our National Parks and other Federal lands. It requires cyclists on Federal lands to use a path or trail, instead of roads, if the speed limit is over 30 MPH and a trail exists within 100 yards, regardless of its condition or utility of the path. The provision sets a terrible precedent. Passing it would send the wrong message to transportation agencies that these policies are acceptable. "

The Queens/LI Thanksgiving Morning Spin ride will leave at 7:50AM so we can ride to Little Neck at a reasonable pace.

Note to Bear Mountain enthusiasts:  I was cycling at Harriman State Park last weekend, and was pulled over by a police officer on that small strip of the ride where one has to ride on the Palisades to continue North on Seven Lakes to get to Perkins after the long descent from Lake Tioriti.  He did let us continue but warned that it is illegal to ride on the Parkway and the police will be handing out tickets going forward. 

Technically he is correct regarding riding on the Palisades, but given there is no way to get to Perkins if you are going South to North in Harriman, and cyclists have been going on this part of the Paliades for time imemorial,   it was odd to hear that enforcement would now begin.
