Westchester Budget Cuts Affect Cycling
An article in the Times describes the results of budget cuts to the county parks department.
“Our entire park budget is down 5.5 percent, and unfortunately we had to make cuts,” said Peter Tartaglia, deputy commissioner of the parks department. Other parks-related programs that the budget would end are ethnic festivals at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla and “Bicycle Sundays” on the Bronx River Parkway.
Triple Vs Compact
I am looking at buying the Missus a new Bike for Christmas. Specifically I am looking at the Specialized Ruby Elite Compact. Her experience is all with a triple and she believes she has to have one. I think a compact will do fine but as neither of us really know what we're talking about I am seeking help from the gearing experts. Specifically is a compact geared as deep as a triple for all intents and purposes.
Cheers.

Hit and Run In Prospect Park
I saw this on another forum was hoping someone from the club may have some info... Reposting from brooklynian.com
My husband was cycling in Prospect Park yesterday, 12/1, at approx. 4:30pm when an agressive grey van hit/swerved/ran off the road/ran into him. His injuries are quite serious. I understand that 5 police vehicles, fire dept and EMA arrived on the scene. I am trying to gather information from witnesses to the incident. If you have any information, please contact me at [email protected]. I am still working on police/accident reports but sometimes that takes time and need to line up the information. Thanks in advance.

Bash Bish
After one of the worst winters in Berkshires history, the battered and beaten Bash Bish has been mostly repaved. The worst part was the switch-backs and those were done first. Now it's as smooth as glass and sports freshly painted lane lines. Hitting one of the 4" deep potholes at 5 or so mph was like going over a speed-bump.
