Thursday morning "A" laps in Central Park

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Wed, 12/21/2011 - 1:19pm

The weather man says 48 degrees and clear/dry at 6:00 AM tomorrow.  If that really does happen, I’ll be at TOG for more year end laps.  Please come!

Unless of course Gil has a ride.   If he does, let's go with him!

New Years: Polar Pancakes

Submitted by DHudes on Tue, 12/20/2011 - 10:37pm

Geoff Cohen and I invite you to join us for a 9:30 AM departure from the Eleanor Roosevelt Statue for our New Years Day ride to Coney Island where we'll cheer on all the swimmers going to freeze in the water including our own Tiger Ellen.  In order to make this accessible to a wider range of riders, it's a C/14 ride.

Teaneck Lunch ride 12/25

Submitted by DHudes on Tue, 12/20/2011 - 7:58pm

Those of you looking for a more relaxed pace C ride with a late start this Sunday are welcome and invited to join Jim Zisfein and myself for our annual 5BBC ride to Teaneck for lunch followed by a Chanukah party at my place (which is across the street from the finish).

The route is about 38 miles. It leaves from the Eleanor Roosevelt Statue @ 10:30 AM. Expect a casual pace of 12-14 mph. I'm riding my hybrid.

72nd st. ramp in Riverside Park

Submitted by DHudes on Tue, 12/20/2011 - 6:46pm

As some of you may know, the ramp to the Greenway from the West Side Highway has been unavailable for some time. I called 311 then followed up with Community Board 7. I was informed that the infrastructure under the ramp had collapsed making it unsafe. I have just received a follow-up e-mail from John Martinez passing along the news that the ramp has been fixed.

Oahu, Hawaii recommendations

Submitted by KBroomell on Tue, 12/20/2011 - 4:49pm

Aloha,

I'm going to Oahu, Hawaii for the first time early next year and I'm hoping to do some riding on the island.  Can anyone offer some recommendations on routes, local clubs, road bike rentals, or other experiences?

Mahalo,

Kevin

Any interest in a Queens/LI ride on 12/25?

Submitted by EChiou on Tue, 12/20/2011 - 4:46pm

Anybody interested in a Queens/LI ride this Sunday morning?
Will start from Forest Hills, around 9AM with pace between 18-21.

Final pace/time/distance dependent on my fellow riders, I just want to ride (not alone).

Holiday Wishes

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Mon, 12/19/2011 - 7:47pm

I was looking through Bob Cowin's predictably wonderful pictures of the Club's holiday party.  This one is my favorite;

Jody and I wish the New York Cycle Club and it's family friends and loved ones a happy holiday season and great new 2012 coming up.

And beyond.

CYCLING 102---ADDING WINTER RUNNING FOR TRAINING -SUPPLEMENTAL

Submitted by AResnick on Mon, 12/19/2011 - 2:34pm

Now,(sunday it was 23 degrees)that winter is upon us; running can be used to supplement biking.  It is warmer to run(less wind effect, and you get warmer faster and easier).  If you start and have never been a runner start with 2 days a week aiming for 3 miles.(walk some if need to).  Do this for 2 weeks then go to 2 days and 4 miles per time..2 weeks later jump up to 5 miles per run and stay twice a week.  If you carry these 2 days a week till either March 1st; or mid march; at that point you usually can start to ride more as the weather "thinks" about warming up.  These 2 days a week can supplement any indoor training you do; as well as your weekend rides.  Usually, these 2 days of running will NOT lead to injuries(not enough  to hurt
