Alternative route to David's Bagels?

Submitted by edeuser on Wed, 03/05/2014 - 1:21pm

Anyone have a good route to get from the GWB to David's Bagel's / 202 that goes further to the west and bypasses Little Tor / South Mtn Road?  I browsed the ride library and everything I’ve turned up seems to follow the usual route up Orchards.

Or if anyone has a recommendation for another good snack stop on the way to Harriman I'm all ears.  Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Compiling resource about road bike rental in NY

Submitted by YehuditS on Wed, 03/05/2014 - 10:05am

We seem to get frequently enquiries about where to rent road bikes. I decided to compile a short resource sheet to put up on the web's resource center for future reference. If you KNOW of a shop that rents "real" road bikes (not the usual tourist clunker hybrid) let me know. Don't just send me a random list of bike shop names - I can google that myself but if you know of a shop that rents such bikes, let me know.

New Wheels

Submitted by Sir Roger on Tue, 03/04/2014 - 4:51pm

Well i just retrievd my bike from my buddies barn where it has been sitting since an accident last season that put me on the DL for the duration.

The rims on my wheels (Campy Neutrons) have deep gouges and are shot. To replace the rims (did i mention Campagnolo) apparently involves replacing all the nuts/nipples and plates and becomes almost as much as buying a new set of wheels.

Not to mention I can't seem to source the nuts and plates anywhere.

Last minute ski trip anyone? cheap

Submitted by BNichols on Tue, 03/04/2014 - 1:52pm

Hi Folks,

3/8-18 (this saturday) I am going with a ski club to St. Moritz. with 2 days in Como Italy.

There is a guy signed up that just broke his leg and cant go, he doesnt have trip insurance.

If someone could go they could probably get his spot for a song.

The full deal is $2300 which includes airfare, hotel, breakfast & dinner in St. Moritz, and ground transport.

Not included are lift tickets which are cheap, lunches, booze, & Dinners in Como.

Email me if you are interested  [email protected] and I will send the trip flyer. Obviously you have to move quickly and need a valid passport.

(yes, I will miss 1 sig saturday)

Traveling to Tuscany, Italy - need advice - routes and bikes

Submitted by MLevin on Tue, 03/04/2014 - 6:58am

All,

As I know many of your travelers, I was wondering if I could get some advice on an upcoming trip to Tuscany, Italy.  To be exact, we are staying 6 nights in Montalcino and then three nights in Florence.

First, does anyone have recommendations about bike rentals.  I am looking to rent a high end or at least decent road bike for a good portion of the trip to do morning rides while the rest of the family and friends are relaxing in the rental home.  Does anyone recommend shipping or bringing my own bike?  I would prefer not to, but thought I would check.  We are flying air France.

Second, does anyone have recommendations for 30-40 mile routes or resources to find routes in the Tuscany region.

Life of a boot

Submitted by GYang on Sun, 03/02/2014 - 10:49pm

This is what a dollar bill looked like after being used as a boot in one of my tires for about three weeks - it went in looking fairly new. I have had others that come out fine. Not sure what was different this time other than this was probably a bigger cut in the tire than others I have had.
