Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Sat, 06/06/2015 - 4:39am

The 'A' listing is being revised and is currently not visible. Sorry for the inconvenience. I just wanted folks to know that it has not been cancelled, and that it is scheduled for the Boathouse at 9:00am on Sunday (tomorrow) morning. Don't worry about not be able to sign up, just show at the Boathouse on time.

Cheers,

George, Shara and Mart

Official protest: That is not the "Unisphere"

Submitted by isaacb on Fri, 06/05/2015 - 6:25pm

I would like to officially protest the following from the Newcomer Ride listing (C version):

"We will meet at Columbus Circle in Manhattan at 8:00AM next to the sailor's monument statue near the Northeast corner across from the Unisphere..."

The Unisphere? That's in Flushing Meadows Park. It was built for the '64 World's Fair.

GWB South side on Sunday 6/7?

Submitted by BGray on Fri, 06/05/2015 - 5:22pm

While riding HHD/River Road last weekend I noticed signs that it would be closed on 6/7 for an event.   Looks like its the ACS GWB challenge:

http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/CommunityFundraisingPages/CFPCY15EA?pg=entry&fr_id=68641

The site indicates that the bridge is closed down for the run.  Does anyone know if that impacts the South walkway?  I looked on the Port Authority site but didn't see any info (of course I may have missed it)

Thanks

Cycle New England

Submitted by PHofherr on Fri, 06/05/2015 - 2:16pm

Does anyone have experience with "Cycle New England", a self-guided bicycle touring company? I plans on booking a trip with them in July through the Blackstone Valley area in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Thanks,

Paul H.

Knee Pain

Submitted by ty111 on Fri, 06/05/2015 - 2:02pm

Does anyone have any helpful tips for behind the patella knee pain when cycling? (And using leg press & climbing stairs, but who cares about that!)

In my little experiment, I found that lower gears and higher cadence help, but there is such a thing as too low. I suspect a muscle imbalance/tightness, because it's on one side where I've had a hip issue.

Any shared experience is welcome.

Thanks.

Help wanted for June 9th C-SIG Graduation

Submitted by GYang on Fri, 06/05/2015 - 1:54pm

We are looking for volunteers to help greet attendees at the door for the upcoming C-SIG graduation club meeting on June 9th. Duties are very simple and you get the priviledge of being one of the first to congratulate the new class of C-SIG graduates, joining in the festivities while earning valuable volunteer credit.

The meeting is at Connolly's 121 W 45th Street btw 6th and Broadway, 3rd floor. Volunteers should plan to arrive by 5:45 pm.

Please use the e-mail response button on the left if you are able to help out!

Thanks.

Hey Folks,

We just introduced a small enhancement to the Ride Roster. The system will automatically email the Ride Roster to all Ride Leaders within an hour of the ride start.

For folks with a smart phone, the email will be formatted so that you can click-to-dial phone numbers for both riders and emergency contacts.

If you don't want to recieve these emails you can turn this off on your user profile by following these steps

Riding from Jersey City to GWB?

Submitted by tohellina on Fri, 06/05/2015 - 11:36am

Hi All,

Anyone know of a safe way to ride from Jersey City to the GWB? River Rd appears to be the go-to, but I find that road terrifying even when driving. I don't know of any other routes. I'm a newbie and still trying to make my way in the world. Oh, and if anyone in the Jersey City/Hoboken side is riding up this weekend, perhaps I can shadow? Thanks!

Small price to pay for killing a cyclist

Submitted by BMirell on Fri, 06/05/2015 - 5:40am

A Michigan judge banned a woman from owning a cell phone Wednesday as part of her probation after she killed a cyclist while driving distracted last fall.

Mitzi Nelson pleaded no-contest in the death of Jill Byelich. Nelson struck Byelich, who was wearing a helmet and reflective clothing, as she rode her bike last fall.
