Cycling Cross Country for Affordable Housing
Hi Everyone!
My name is Brit and I'm a 24 year old cyclist, living in Harlem. I've enjoyed a few group rides with NYCC and really love the info that this community has provided me, on cycling in NYC.
This summer I will be biking from New Hampshire to Washington State with an organization called Bike & Build. This is a ride to benefit affordable housing and along the route, my team and I will be building homes with different organizations like Habitat for Humanity.
Champion Systems, which makes NYCC's apparel (in China), just announced it's moving its HQ from Brooklyn to.....
Lincoln, Nebraska!
No kidding. Moving to the center, the very core of...uh, ummm, what?
Sunday's scouting ride to Hartsdale - canceled
We're concerned about possible black ice. Sorry. Join us on Christmas Day to do this ride if you're able to.
Recycle a Bike Store DUMBO
Today I wnet to the Recycle a Bike store in DUMBO I donated 6 bags of cycle clothes. They could not have been more unwelcoming. They acted like they were doing me a big favor. First I was asked if I could come back and go to their wharehouse to dontate and its only open Tuedays and Thurdays. I I drove there from Westchester and I am not coming back. I pointed out that I called earlier in the week. Begrudgingly they took the clothes and gave me the donation slip. I will not go back there!
NYCC Logo is the New Home Button
Hello all,
A few months ago the 'Home' button was removed from he menu bar to allow a better usage of the menu bar and keep the site with current nevigation standards. It’ was a redundant function (the logo already existed as a home button). The logo is how you go back to the homepage on almost every site built in the last five years or so.
Tour de Brooklyn Cancelled
Bummer, but just too much snow.
Saturday’s George’s Arctic Rollers Canceled 12/16
Due to the weather the ride has bean canceled
Sunday Hike (12/17) Sterling Forest Fire Tower
A moderate 4.3 mile outing, mostly on woods roads to a hilltop lookout atop the Sterling Forest Fire Tower. We're using cars, so advanced email sign-ins are needed to match available seats with available bottoms. We're expecting 1-2" of snow on the ground, so layered clothing, boots, water, snacks, lunch, and appropriate footgear (perhaps Stabilicers Maxx or IceTrekker Diamond Grips) are recommended... consider a pole too, if desired. Two lunch spots; outdoors at tower base as well as indoor/outdoor facilities at Ranger Station/Park Headquarters.
Update on new Social / Events tab
Dear NYCC members,
I would like to make it known to all of you that a new Social / Events tab was added to NYCC's Website yesterday. A few items were moved around the menu tabs to allowfor a better flow and organization, but nothing was removed from the site
Paul Hofherr awarded a Lifetime Membership award
The New York Cycle Club was founded in 1936, some 80+ years ago. I’ve often wondered how many people have been members of the Club during that time. 10,000? 25,000? 60,000? More?
Of all those members, less than 25 have been honored with a Lifetime Membership Award. Syd Lange, for instance, he founded the Club in 1936, he received one. So did Chris Mailing. Chris wrote the Club bylaws that continue to govern us today. Irv Weissman - many credit Irv with inventing the concept of “spinning”.
Take a look at the carousel on the main page of the Club website; Paul Hofherr was awarded a Lifetime Membership at our Holiday Party.
