New Film: ALL FOR ONE on May 2

Submitted by RRGilbert on Wed, 04/25/2018 - 11:23am

United by their renegade spirit and a determination to win against substantial odds, Orca-GreenEdge (now Mitchelton-Scott) riders take on the international circuit. The film offers unique insights into the first five years of their journey, bearing witness to the ethos of the team as embodied by all – from the strongest to most embattled members. Out of a culture that embraces a deeply human approach to sport, unlikely champions are born, and seemingly improbable team and personal goals are achieved. Hear Estaben Chaves, Matthew Hayman and others tell their stories.

Couple of centuries ago when slavery was abolished and bikes ruled before cars were invented. The Madison Square Garden was built for indoor track bike racing.

> The Times opined, “An athletic contest in which the participants go queer in their heads and strain their powers until their faces become hideous with the tortures that rack them is not sport, it is brutality.” In 1899, then New York governor Theodore Roosevelt banned the solo six-day, apparently agreeing with the Times and the humane societies. <

Some interesting thoughts on wheels

Submitted by mgeller1 on Wed, 04/25/2018 - 6:38am

Ignored my brake tracks a little too long and was told to replace them immediately. Real danger riding on worn out brake tracks. Saw this article that discusses this and addresses some carbon wheel issues too.

Hi, I'm doing research project for school, and I'm looking to interview people involved in bicycle groups hang out in the city, especially anyone involved in the ride out back in November. If anyone could help out, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

Allied Cycle Works

Anyone know much about Allied Cycles? They have one dealer in the area (Acme in Brooklyn) and I plan to do a test ride soon. The Alfa seem to be highly rated. Do you know if they come with electronic shifters and disc brakes. Any other recommendations in the $6-7K price range? Thanks. Bharat

Sports Med Doc Reco

Submitted by BJalan on Sun, 04/22/2018 - 11:51pm

Hi - any recommendations for a good sports med doc in the city who accepts good insurance. I have been facing a niggling hamstring injury which refuses to go away (am doing foamrolling, yoga, stretching, compression boot) and I would like to consult a diff doc to make sure my season does not get shot. Thanks. Bharat

Look out for doors!

My wife just texted me that a bike messager just got doored in midtown via a taxi. She reported the cyclist was shaken but appeared okay, as the bike. A photo was taken of the licence plate.

It is one thing to discuss issues of human interaction in the abstract, quite another to find oneself on the concrete.
