Ashokan Rail Trail now open

It promises some spectacular views and should provide a nice little "rest" (read: flat section) on an otherwise hilly ride.

School me on trainer/roller please

I used to pass winter by hibernating in some snowy places (aka, skiing).

That WAS sufficient exercise that I can pick it back up in spring time when I got back on the bike. But as the weather keep getting warmer and snow less frequent, I'm no longer getting exercise regularly enough to maintain my fitness. Now I have a really hard time in spring, highway overpass feels like Bear Mountain! Getting older also adds insult to injury.

Barrier Now Removed From New Jersey Side of GWB

Submitted by RSchmon on Fri, 11/22/2019 - 11:54am

I also mentioned this in Pat's post.

There still appears to be work going on, and the security man didn't know if this was permanent or temporary, but for now it's gone.

Dismount or Ticket Risk - NJ side of GWB

Submitted by Pat Gallagher on Wed, 11/20/2019 - 9:51pm

There is a new sign by the entrance to the plastic jersey barriers on the NJ side of the GWB instructing cyclists to dismount and walk their bikes.  A construction worker today advised that police will be issuing tickets starting in a week for failure to do so, presumably to allow time for word to get out.  Apparently there was a pedestrian/bicycle incident.  It is narrow, as we all know, and the walk requirement is only for the length of the jersey barriers.  Just a heads up to all.

as a bit of trivia, we also learned today that that stretch is used overnight by oversized trucks to get onto the GWB and the jersey barriers are placed to provide the minimum width for such trucks.

What were the actual vote counts? And why aren't they published?

Submitted by RRosenthal on Wed, 11/20/2019 - 12:35am

Last year there was a contested election: the name of the winner was, obviously, announced; the actual vote was not. Why not? To spare feelings? We're adults. When we put ourselves forward, we can do so without being mortally wounded if we learn we aren't favored and even if we're overwhelmingly disfavored. That comes with the candidacy.

Neile has created the NYCC SIG/STS Train Request shared Google document for 2020.

2 leaders have already contacted us for access to it. Coincidence that type A people would be in charge of A rides?

Contact me to get access to this document. I know, it isn't even Thanksgiving and we are dealing with Spring.
