More questions about Firefox and browsers

Submitted by MGewirtz on Wed, 02/09/2011 - 1:44pm

Could someone explain the process for changing browsers. I use Time Warner cable, and AOL. I have stayed with AOL mostly because of inertia: it is loaded on my computer and I am comfortable using it although sometimes it is slow and balky. If I download Firefox will that use upa lot of space on my computer? Should I remove AOL or will that cause me to lose parts of my operating system? If I start using Firefox, does it have an email function or will I have to make other email arrangements. I love the computer and I use it a lot. However, I am also scared to death of doing something to it that will cause me to lose the limited capacity I have electronically. Any help would be appreciated.

Diadora Heel replacement

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Wed, 02/09/2011 - 10:06am

If anyone has an old pair of Diadora cycling shoes or a spare heel replacement, or any suggestions on where to get one or what else could be used, I would greatly appreciate some info. I did a web search; not too much stock out there; I think they've stopped making shoes, but I have a pair of winter shoes I cannot use because I'll kill myself walking in them with one missing heel.
Thanks...feel free to email me off line.

P.S. I know about Chain Reaction website...I ordered from them Jan. 2 and am now contesting with my credit card company...they never shipped the merchandise (but lied about it) and charged my credit card a day after the order.

Dilema about a commuter bike

Submitted by galgalone on Tue, 02/08/2011 - 3:11pm

So last week my commuter bike was stolen from inside my building. This means that it is time to buy a new commuter bike.
My old one was a Trek 7000 Hybrid (RIP) and I am not sure what I want as my next one, the budget is around 500 bucks, new or used... and I really don't know where to start.
I got the Trek when I was living in Northern NJ, and I never really did any research about "city compatible bikes".
Please pitch in.... Hybrid? Road bike? Maybe even... dare I say... a fixie?
My commute is all in Manhattan and normally I don't go more than 30-40 blocks.
General and specific suggestions are both appreciated.

Thanks!

Getting your bike cross country!

Submitted by CPerea on Tue, 02/08/2011 - 2:27pm

Does anyone that has ever shipped/flown with a bike have any advice for me? I'm flying to Sacramento in July for the Livestrong Challenge in Davis, CA and need to bring my bike. Right now, I'm looking at buying an "aircaddy" from shipbikes.com and flying with frontier (only a $50 baggage fee for bike boxes). Anyone have a better suggestion or want to lend me a bike box? :)
