Don't be a JERK

http://www.streetsblog.org/2011/05/10/here-they-are-dots-dont-be-a-jerk-...

The DOT's new campaign " Don't be a Jerk" hopes to awaken the inner JERK in all or some of us

to help keep the peace by doing the right thing.

A good idea IMHO however with some additional marketing such as:

a) Doing this in more than one language or WITH sub-titles?

b) Perhaps some Rolling Billboards in major areas with bike lanes or avenues in NYC?

c) Flyers in a cartoon  panel  design sent to Restaurants and take out food shops.

Arraignment, May 13.  Charge: Leaving the scene of a fatality. Sec. 600.2A, I think.

Those of you coming in late here may want to glance at: http://www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/cops-driver-in-fatal-old-westbury-hit-run-arrested-1.2504438. Maxim had been in the club some years ago.

A long, of course earlier thread about this is at: http://www.nycc.org/node/48741

An example of bad writing

Submitted by RRosenthal on Tue, 05/10/2011 - 9:20am

Juliet Macur, who has the enviable job of spending three weeks in France and three weeks in Italy each year at the Times's expense, covering the TdF and Giro, is a good writer. But the following, at the end of today's report on yesterday's Giro is bad.

"On Monday, riders’ worst fears came true. In the wake of Weylandt’s death, race officials unceremoniously handed David Millar, of the Garmin-Cervélo team, the leader’s pink jersey."

How's that? The riders' worst fears were that David Millar would get the pink jersey? That's what it says.  Surely unintended, but still....

Good place for used bikes

Submitted by Bdgreene13 on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 7:31pm

I'm new to cycling in NYC, and need to buy a bike.  The only thing is that I can't afford anything more than $150-$200 which will not get me a decent new bike.  Does anyone know where I should look to get a GOOD used bike? Or do any of you have one you're looking to sell?

B/C level riders for laps in Central Park

Submitted by MFulton on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 4:17pm

Hi, looking for other riders who can do 4 laps in about 1.75 hrs. I'm about to finish the C-SIG, but I've been riding during the week by myself--it'd be nice to find other people who want to ride during the week.

Generally, I've been riding in the evenings (after the cars are out of the park), but I'd be in to morning rides (before cars are let into the park).

Anyone interested?

If you are going to the Berkshires for Memorial Day weekend, don't forget to sign up today for the dinner/dance at the Egremont Country Club.  The price goes from $45 to $50 on Wednesday, May 11th.

Don't miss out on a fun evening of dinner and dancing with your cycling friends.  There is a social hour with passed hor d'ouerves and crudite, dinner with salad, scrumptious entree choices, rice or pasta, veggies, and dessert with coffee and tea.  And the best part, dancing the night away.
