A Vote of thanks to Richard Rosenthal
Just got back from riding escort in the NY Marathon.. What a great ride what an amazing race.. those wheel chair dudes are world class.. I am glad it was only 26 miles..!! A short but brisk ride..
A big thank you to Richard for organising all the riders, writing such funny emails and entertaining us in his own inimitable way.
Sign me up for next year..
Sincerely

Sad to Report; Bicycle Thefts
Unfortunately, another NYCC friend and I had our bikes stolen Saturday from the rack located at the 16th Street entrance to the HighLine -- within a period of about 10 minutes!
Lots of other bikes, lots of other people. Chained up with cable lock -- obviously not enough. Also, obviously a set-up, a planned heist where the thieves must have been watching as we arrived.
To be very eloquent and polite about it, IT SUCKS!
Dunkin' Donuts was worth the trip
Thanks Alfredo for another great pre-marathon ride.

Tree Carnage in Bergen
Please be very careful riding in Bergen County this weekend. The trees and debris have not all been cleared from the sides of the roads (and there's so much of it, it won't all be cleard by Saturday or Sunday). Some roads (including sections of 501) are at best 2/3rds of their normal width, leaving much less room for bikes and cars to co-exist peacefully. If you ride too far to the right, you will suddenly find your path blocked by debris - if a car is passing just then, good luck. Also, there are sharp ends of branches sticking out both from piles at the side of the road and from standing trees. Some of these are at eye level but not easily seen. There are still wires dangling into the roads - I assume they are no longer live, but please
NYCC/Marathon - best wishes
I rode thru the lower loop of Central Park this morning on my way to work. Whoa! The excitement in the air was awe-inspiring. A million people, speaking a thousand languages, photo crews, running teams, movie stars, lay people - wow - New York, New York. This stuff only happens here, in this city, in our city. You and I have lots of friends who are participating in this year's annual Marathon elebration - some for the first time - others for the umpteenth. For the rest of their lives they will own this experience - revel in it - it will be their's. I'm so envious.
To each and every one - have a great run - I know you will!
