{B-STS} 4/26, Week 8 discussion thread (aka it might rain so what shall we do?)

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Fri, 04/25/2014 - 5:25pm

The summary as of 5pm Friday:

* We have a reservation for a 7:47am train to White Plains

* It will probably be raining in White Plains when we arrive at 8:22am

* The rain is supposed to clear up by noon, but no one has any idea when, specifically (reports indicate: 9a, 9:30a, maybe 11a)

* When it does clear up, we're likely to have a window of acceptable riding weather (cloudy, wet roads) that will let us finish our scheduled ride on-time.

Ride To Montauk is on for 2014 - after a 1,000 rider haircut (again)

Glen Goldstein sent this out today:

http://us8.campaign-archive2.com/?u=dda7565de205342b68c60a66c&id=d69f4738e5

The gist: Southampton, a major town along the long-standing route, insisted on a 1,500 cyclist limit. For the entire day's travel. They claimed the reason for this limit was "safety".

Last year this "safe" limit, with no incidents, was 2,500 riders.

The year prior, I believe there were 3,300 total registrants.

Lower the LG tower ride

Submitted by jack Lehnert on Fri, 04/25/2014 - 6:58am

This Sunday, April 27th, there is a ride to advocate for the lowering of the proposed LG tower that will be built on 9W.  The flyer below has details of the ride and explains the probable impact for bike riders on 9W, as well as illustrate the impact the proposed tower will have on the skyline above the Palisades.

GWB South Path closed, North open

Submitted by CWaaser on Thu, 04/24/2014 - 3:28pm

According to PA Alerts: "The GWB North Sidewalk is open."  That usually means the south side is closed. According to the website, this is through tomorrow (Friday), with the south path open on Saturday.

Visiting Cyclist

Submitted by PaulB on Thu, 04/24/2014 - 1:32pm

I am visiting from the UK in May and I am trying to find somewhere I can keep up my training (in a moment of madness I signed up for La Marmotte). So I am probably looking for a hotel with a really good gym, or a really good gym that has something like a Wattbike. Any suggestions? Or anywhere in the city you can hire road bikes? I would really appreciate any help.
